The Boot Inn, Chester

If you look in the dictionary for the definition of 'Proper English Pub' the answer will simply say 'The Old Boot Inn, Chester'. This really is what pubs should be about, serving quality ale at really affordable prices (1.32 for Samual Smiths bitter!) in no-nonsense but comfortable old style surroundings.
I recommend that you make the effort and seek out this little jem before the corporate 'big boys' take over and destroy it's character.
My only quibble on an otherwise superb visit would be that the drinks were served in plastic glasses, i'm hoping that this was due to it being Chester races day, but I would appreciate your comments to confirm.

The Earl Grey Inn, Leek

For anybody who has ever wanted to experience time travel, but alas has yet to discover a time machine, then a visit to the Earl Grey is your best alternative. Step through the door and you will instantly be transported back 50 years!
Unfortunately the carpets, curtains and furniture contained within give the appearance of never been changed (or cleaned) for this period.
Cyril was correct about the extensive whiskey selection, but I must admit that the cobwebs hanging from the bottles detracted from me trying any of them!
I would suggest either an extensive redecoration is required, or perhaps a visit by the national trust to update the pub to 'working museum' status!
