The Victoria, Clifton

Visited Bristol for a few days, stayed in the Clifton area, so found this proper little pub having looked at this site, as I'm sure you wouldn't find it by accident, tucked away as it is. Good beer, friendly locals (Hi to Ritva and Derek), and to be recommended for those who would prefer a nice pint of real ale (choice of six) in a "local" without being too Royston Vasey!

The Ox, Castlefield

"The best Gastro pub in the North West" according to The Independent apparently. Can't argue as food was excellent, a good choice of nicely kept beers and the occasional star of the small screen (just round the corner from Granada Studios), and you can even stay overnight for 50 a double room. Didn't catch the chaps names, but the service was excellent.Highly recommended.

The Orange Tree, Chelmsford

Still a friendly and family run "proper" pub. Good food at lunchtime and weekends (and some evenings but not sure when...). Now open weekday afternoons, but with similar adult crowd, no yobbos, apart from the usual suspects there of a Friday...
They have darts (and a ladies team), crib, footy team, a golf society, music and quizes, so wander in and see what's on.
Best of all, they have London Pride on!
