The Load of Hay, Bedfont

I was a barman at this pub from 1969 to 1971. The publicans were Vic and Marie Roberts. I would work 5 shifts per week. We had a very busy public bar and good darts team and the lounge bar, more up market, was always full. The landlord Vic always wore a dinner jacket and bow tie or suit and bow tie. Marie always wore her hair up and would dress in a 2piece suit. Vic drove an 11 year old Rolls Royce and they owned a place on the Thames at Marlow. Whilst there they had a Great Dane and Jack Russell, a parrot and a monkey but the monkey didn't stay long! I think they had a son called Dudley (?) who was married. My nickname was Flash as I always wore a suit or sports jacket with a pocket handkerchief. This was a very busy up market pub which I was happy to be associated with./
