The King and Queen, Fitzrovia

Scene of Bob Dylan's first ever English gig - didn't know that till later. I went in because it's across the road from Cleveland Road workhouse, supposedly the inspiration for Oliver Twist (Dickens lived on Cleveland Street as a boy). Anyway, decent boozer, nice pint of bitter. Fitzrovia's a bit quiet at this end but check it out if you're on a Dyan or Dickens pilgrimage.

The Green Man, Fitzrovia

Used to be Paul McCartney's local when he lived with the Ashers on Wimpole Street, according to Tony Bramwell's book re his years working for the Beatles. Sounds like it's changed a bit since then: no sawdust, billiards, piano etc. But it's still a nice-looking traditional pub, serving a good range of beers. I had a pint of Doombar when I was there. Went down very well. Bar staff prompt and polite. Will definitely call again when I'm in that manor.
