Falmouth Packet Inn, Penzance

The pub was recommended by friends who had had a good recent experience (it is apparently under new ownership).

We visited (unbooked) on a Thursday evening in mid-June with a view to eating, but were curtly informed by the lady behind the bar that it was "totally out of the question this evening ... we're fully booked". We walked out.

Curious because the pub serves 2 unique brews from Penzance Brewery we re-visited the following evening around 9 p.m. and succeeded in trying both beers (well kept without a doubt). Once again the reception from the same lady was brusque and she gave the impression that entering for drinks only was not encouraged. We were made to feel unwelcome and isolated. There were a number of diners present, but the sizeable open-plan room was devoid of pub-type atmosphere.

We will not be giving it any further custom whilst the same owners remain

The Red Lion Inn, Shoreham by Sea

My wife and I have visited The Red Lion 2-3 times per week for around 8 years. During that time, we have consistently been treated with great courtesy, have enjoyed many well-cooked and well presented meals and have enjoyed a multitude of interesting and excellently cared for beers.

Interestingly we have never ever seen pasties on the menu during this time and have never found the staff to be anything other than helpful and friendly.

It is to be wondered if some contributers recall the same pub as we do, or else are somewhat mischievous!

Well done to the Landlady and All Staff at The Red Lion time after time after time.

P.S. The Easter weekend Adur Beer Festival is outstanding.
