The Old Queens Head, Penn

I have eaten at this pub many times over the last 3 years at lunch, evening and Sunday lunchtime. If the carpark is busy, drive on. They are unable to deliver a good service at peak times which is a shame as I have had more pleasant than bad experiences here. I have noticed that in comparison to a year ago, the staff have completely changed and do not deliver the same respect to the customer as the previous bunch.

That aside, the food is very good albeit a little over-priced. The menu offers a fantastic selection to suit anyone's palate and is changed seasonally. The service is not as good as it should be for the prices you are paying. The building is lovely and the log fire in the winter is welcoming. If you want to eat in the restaurant part which is upstairs, book in advance as it is very popular.

The Mayflower, Hazlemere

This pub has changed hands since the last review and I understand run by locals. It's been refurbished inside and out and the green bus overcrowding the entrance has gone so you can see the spacious car park! The landlord and landlady are very friendly and welcoming. There is a bar area with flat screen TVs with loads of room with a separate restaurant with a small but well selected lunch menu and specials board (have yet to try evenings and Sunday lunchtimes). The dishes are freshly prepared and good quality. It's become a regular lunchtime haunt for our girl's lunch.

If you drive past this, it's time to stop and go in.
