Rose Villa Tavern, Birmingham

When they announced that the Rose Villa Tavern was having a refurbishment, and changing hands, we had great expectations!! Especially as myself and a number of friends (who live in and around the JQ) frequently enjoy it's sister venues Victoria and the Jekyll and Hyde.

I didn't know that you could still get a drink in Birmingham where after asking for a top-up, the bar girl uses her finger to wipe the top of the glass!... the last time I experienced that was at my uni bar in 1996, and the beer was more like 99p a pint rather than over �3. Poor..... very poor....

The owners of the Rose Villa seem to be pulling the bar in a direction it reluctantly wants to go. The interior does not have the warmth and welcoming aura of its sister venues and when competing with Lord Cliffden and The Lion, fails miserably. The fact that it gets busy I'm assuming is because of it's location. Seek a little harder my friends and you will be rewarded with venues 10 times better!

I won't be visiting this venue again...

Maybe the owners should consider dropping this venue before it completely ruins the groups perceived ethos.

The Church Inn, Hockley

Now, having recently moved to Birmingham I've been drinking in this establishment for a while.
Not every weekend mind! But most...

If you are looking for a true, quintessential Birmingham Boozer, look no further!
A visit to the Church Inn on Great Hampton Street will definitely be gratifying, and must be on your Visit List.

You only need to spark a conversation with any of the punters and you�ll be rewarded with friendly conversation. Otherwise, If you prefer to take a little quiet time, there�s space for you too.
The Church Inn is a place where regulars hold family parties, celebrate Christmas together and put the world to rights whilst cared for by the helpful, considerate and caring Landlady.

So, if you�re a person who like�s making up their own mind about where they spend a little free time, rather than following a secondary opinion, The Church Inn I�m certain will welcome you with open arms.
