The Jackdaw Stump, Homerton

This pub has obviously been completely re-done since the last review. It's definitely aimed at the lucrative hipster market now. It's nicely furnished and decorated, in a similar guise to most of the other hipster real ale joints in the area. It's got a nice yard out the back. A reasonably good selection of ales, though the big downside is it's massively overpriced, so they seem to be struggling to get customers through the door.

The Royal George, Deptford

What a great find! A traditional backstreet London boozer just off the beaten track. Feels a bit like stepping back in time. With most of the Deptford pubs being turned into bookies or Hipster hangouts, and New Cross catering for the rich kid student crowd, this pub is a breath of fresh air.

The young couple running the pub are really lovely - you can't beat a good bit of northern friendliness, which London is often lacking. The locals are chatty and always seem to be enjoying themselves.

The beer is good and tastes as you would expect of a Sam Smith's pint. Nice to have northern prices dahn sarf too! I agree with a previous comment that it's nice to be able to hear yourself think. How novel to be able to hold a conversation with someone without needing to shout or use sign language. We'll be back!
