The Peacock Inn, Piltdown
My husband and I took my father to the Peacock for Father's day lunch and I am afraid we came away rather disappointed! The place is gorgeous, and the food was very good, but the service we received really let it down. We were booked in for 1.00, and we ordered at about 1.10, but did not receive our food until 2.30! There was no explanation or apology for this, and the restaurant was not busy enough to warrant such a delay. We had ordered bread and olives with our drinks but these did not arrive until about 5 minutes before our meals anyway so we were very hungry! The table next to us received their food well before us, despite having arrived after - clearly they were regulars... Having been offered dessert menus, we did not receive them, and eventually had to go and find them ourselves. To add insult to hunger, when my husband went to pay (after waiting some time for the bill) he, unfortunately, did not check the receipt properly and we later realised that we had been charged for nearly �15.00 of drinks we did not have. Upon calling the pub, I was told that they could not do anything whatsoever to refund the money onto the card unless we came back in - which, as we live in Yorkshire, is hardly practical! I'm afraid they made no effort to make amends for their error and barely even apologised. All in all, it left a rather bad taste! We won't be going back there in a hurry. It is a shame that such a beautiful pub is owned by people with such a casual attitude towards customer service.
