The Marquis of Granby, Harpenden

The ale is atrocious, but the Guiness is excellent. Delightful exterior and charming little features, but the pub feels slightly run down. With some effort it could be a real corker, as the location is superb, but if you're an ale drinker, avoid like the plague.

The Cross Keys, Harpenden

Charming pub - the best in Harpenden. This place exudes character. Beer is always very good, with Rebellion IPA 3.7%, TT Landlord 4.0% and a Tring beer on. Bar staff are always friendly and the locals are usually decent characters. No televisions, music, fruit machines, pests etc. Just what a pub should be.

The Happy Man, Englefield Green

Superb pub for both students and locals alike without the cliqueness one may expect from such sets mingling. Beer always in tip-top condition with an interesting and varied selection to choose from. There are three guest pumps and one regular; Hopback Summer Lightning 5%. Welcoming & friendly manager and good bar staff.

Ecletic selection of homemade food, ranging from thai dishes to traditional English at v. reasonable prices. Contrary to the review below and having had most of the dishes on the menu, the food is homecooked and fresh. What do you expect the chef to do with scampi and chips? Rear his own scampi? Grow his own peas in the beer garden? What an absurd comment.

Great pub for lunch, dinner or a drink. Or possibly all three.
