The Head of Steam, Huddersfield

Fifth and final pub of the day, as very handy for train home. Good selection of beers, four rooms to choose to drink in as well as a small roped off area outside at the entrance. Only let down was that it was quite considerably the dearest of all the pubs we visited.

The Corner, Huddersfield

4th pub of the day, recommended by the manager of the first! Finding it was hardest thing, but if walking along road from station then not far after Wetherspoons you reach market cross and you need to take far left corner by RBS to find market walk where this bar is of course on the first corner down. Up stairs to main bar, then a further bar on top. Very basic layout as obviously had a life previously as commercial premises but not a problem when you’re there for the beer and plenty of seating. Sadly got carried away with the novelty of Mallinsons Wagner’s Gold in honour of the towns manager and did not note the other beers on offer but there were plenty. But this 3.8% local beer did the trick anyway and thanks to the fore mentioned local hero will be able to visit again next year.

The Rat and Ratchet, Huddersfield

3rd pub of the day, had been told that they pull White Rat constantly and they were doing that when we reached the bar, our 7 hands added to quite a few more when a barman checked we were all after it. Couldn’t go wrong £2.85 for a 4% beer. Plenty of other Rat beers too as well as Silver King and Yorkshire Blonde from Ossett Brewery to name a couple of the others. Excellent pub, look forward to a longer visit next time.
