The Pot Of Beer, Manchester

The Pot is still standing although there is a recent notice on its door pointing to a council web site. Permission is being sought to pull it down to make way for apartments. For all the council's talk of architectural continuity and regional identity, the Pot stands as a reminder that the late sixties and seventies saw some wholesale vandalism of buildings which had a need to remain. Manchester's current makeover is destined to look tired and bleak in years to come without street-level amenities and curios like this pub. I may as well start saying "I told you so" already.

The Robert Peel, Bury

As it says above, '..reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously..' but Wetherspoons' head office really should. The persistantly annoying habit of displaying a whole row of pump clips for beers which aren't available has become a minor irritation compared with the cleanliness of the customer areas and poor training the staff have received. Good things happen at Wetherspoons pubs - take a look at the in-house magazine though I doubt if this pub in it's current form will be featured.

Norwegian Blue, Manchester

I popped in here for a Kronenbourg after seeing Woody Allen's 'Melinda and Melinda'. Watchable, amusing in parts though ultimately frustrating, because i think he's capable of so much more, but doesn't appear interested or willing to push himself any longer. Norwegian Blue meanwhile had a 'locker room' odour to it from that ever mouldering water feature.
