The Red Lion, Birmingham

Nice comfortable pub with oak panelling and friendly bar staff.
Usually 3 real ales on (2 at 3.15 but the guest ale is 3.50!!! on occasions).
Food is variable. Had a cracking Lancashire hotpot and the Hunter's Chicken was very nice too. However more recently both my wife and I tried the 8oz burger which was very dry and heavy going.
Will go back again but not too often as I think they are top whack on the ale pricing.

Cracking ales and a good range too. However I would agree with the other poster who commented that being a local would be an advantage. Was treated to substandard bar service as the bar staff were more interested in the boorish locals sat at the bar.
Also a big no no in the 21st century is the attitude to children. Even with a well behaved 8 year old daughter we were banished away to the remote (and rather transport cafe style) restaurant. Why oh why are children so reviled when it comes to pubs in this country yet loved and embraced in Europe.
