Popped in for a meal but were greeted by miserable and very unfriendly bar staff so we left promptly and went elswhere.

Ye Olde Starre Inn, York

I like this olde worlde pub tucked along the alley but it is right in the middle of tourist mecca and hence suffers from being very busy and a little more expensive. Having said that we stopped for a light monday lunch which was very good value and there is also a fair selection of ever changing ales although I did have to wait a while at the bar before somebody decided they better serve some customers.

The Wellington, York

Vary small and cozy local pub hidden in the middle of a housing estate. One bar, one pool room and a snug at the back. At weekends its full of locals and students beacuse the OB bitter is �1.43 a pint. most stuff on offer is Sam Smiths which is fine if you dont mind drinking OB all night. I found the staff and the locals very friendly and will visit agian when in the area.
