The Priory Arms, Stockwell

Marvellous boozer. Always a decent selection of at least 6 real ales on tap. And usually a real cider or two. Frequent beer and cider festivals. Rarely too crowded to get a seat. Reasonable priced food: decent pizzas etc (NOT gastro!) No garden but a small yard out front. Theatre/performance space upstairs. Hard to fault really, except sometimes they run out of cider. Doesn't open until 4pm on most weekdays I think, so check it out before you visit. My idea of a proper pub.

Marquis of Lorne, Stockwell

My local. A proper community pub. A home from home. No food, no 'craft beer', no cocktails, no nonsense. Just drinks and conversation with your mates & neighbours. Pool table, sports on the telly, small garden out back, friendly locals and bar staff, free jukebox, dominoes/card table, darts board, dodgy banter. And one of the most beautiful external tiled facades you'll see on any pub anywhere. That guy from the Streets filmed his video in here, but we chucked him out cos he was too posh.

The Queens Head, Lambeth

This is a really decent pub. A "proper" pub, if you like. The oldest boozer in Brixton, now under new management. Been in a fair few times recently and it's becoming a bit of a local favourite. They've got two real ales on (Wandle and Landlord last time I was in) as well as an excellent cider selection (Old Rosie, Aspalls, Weston's and something else, all on tap) and a decent looking selection of wine.

They seem to have sorted the food out good as well - my mates had a huge Sunday roast and there was a good range of meals and bar snacks up on the blackboard. A lot of people seemed to have come for the Sunday dinner and there was a nice relaxed atmosphere.

It was also pretty lively on the Friday night we went in. There was DJ and a guy playing guitar for some of the evening, which was good and it wasn't too loud that you couldnt still have a conversation with your mates! There seemed to be quite a few people stopping in for a quick pre-gig beer, as it's really close to Brixton Academy / O2 Academy and less crowded than the more generic pubs on the High Street.

They also have an outside courtyard area..a bit cold for this time of year (other than for a quick ciggie) but I'm sure that'll be really nice in the summer.

All in all a really nice pub and well worth visiting if you're in the area. It's only about 5 mins from the tube.
