I prefer to drink real ale in this country. Belgium is my idea of heaven. I enjoy nothing more than visiting a new town and city and taking a long walk around its watery (but not to much please ) attractions.

The Black Bull, Blaydon

A proper old fashioned bar that is welcoming and friendly with three well kept real ales. Usualy Black Sheep and Wylam Gold with an alternating Adnams Broadside and Directors Choice. No juke box TV or fruit machine. There are some fine photos of old Blaydon before it had its heart ripped out and a real fire in the colder months as well as a large patio for warmer times. Well worth a trip out from Newcastle and easily acessable by public transport. The new managers have only been there just over a year but they have made a great effort and it shows. If you want a pub were the quality of the beer and good conversation are high on the list then this is it.

The Alma, Windsor

It is certainly out of the way! I thought this pub would be right up my street with it's quirkyness, and it certainly is that, but the beer was only so so and the service poor. The clientelle seemed mostly interested in themselves in a hippy chic sort of way. By the time we got there my partners palate was jaded so she wanted a vodka and tonic the charge for this greatly lightened my wallet. Dissapointing

The Windsor Castle, Windsor

Sat outside in the beer garden on a hot day in June with a fine view of the great park. The beer was certainly acceptable and while I did not eat the food looked to be of a good quality and they were certainly a busy enough kitchen. One of the better pubs in Windsor
