The Cornish Arms, Pendoggett

You can only imagine our delight, when we popped in for a quick drink, to be confronted with the evening�s entertainment: The landlady, Felicity, was busy chastising one of her customers for complaining that his food had been overcooked. We tried hard to avoid the entertainment; it was all but impossible as the landlady proceeded to crush her opponent for failing to have the back bone to mention the problem earlier or to consume his mussels within the prescribed 20 minutes of the starting pistol.
Just as we thought that the poor customer would be allowed to leave, Felicity increased her tempo for all to hear. We were all reminded how she had served may thousands of meals over the summer and only three had (who had been brave enough) complained. Her argument was so loud and terrifying that even the poor customer�s wife felt obliged to side against him. No doubt she felt that they would be allowed home early for compliance.
Having enjoyed the rare sight of a paying customer humiliated in front of a sparsely populated bar, the wine must have gone to my head. I turned to thank the landlady and her gladiator for the evening�s entertainment, pointed out that my wife and I normally prefer more welcoming hosts. I managed to escape with only a solitary �well don�t you come back either� ringing in my ears.
