Moon On The Hill, Harrow

I was once a regular (3 times a week!) in the Moon on the Hill however since moving away a couple of years ago I hadnt been back until last week Nov 07.
I would always meet up with friends etc. before going on elsewhere as the atmosphere was always extremely lively in the Moon on The Hill as it benefited from a diverse range of punters thanks to the location of the pub and you were always guaranteed a good mix of people young & old, male and female etc. However, upon visiting the pub last week I was disappointed to find that it had become a little bit tired in terms of atmosphere, the bar was being propped up by a couple of elderly gentleman who looked a tad worse for wear and another short, overweight bald fellow, who introduced himself as Dave I might add! I dont know if the new smoking ban has taken its toll on the atmosphere due to the only smoking area now available to smokers is the high street directly outside the pub.
I was also disappointed to note that the service levels have dropped somewhat in as much as the bar staff seemed to spend more time chatting with each other in the back room and serving food than they did taking drinks orders.
My companion at the bar Dave was getting extremely hot under his, rather tight Lacoste collar, whilst waiting to be served as he attempted to get someones attention. In fairness to Dave he did offer to buy me a drink however I declined as he appeared to be a tad lonely and as such was itching for what would no doubt be a rather long and boring conversation.
I left the Moon on the Hill feeling disappointed and a bit sad for Dave.
I wont be going back.

Kingsfield Arms, Harrow

I have been a frequent visitor to the Kingsfield over the years although I wouldn't consider myself a regular - too many other pubs on route which usually means that I have had enough before I get that far!

Popped in last week for a couple of quiet beers and found the atmosphere to be better than the majority of pubs in the local area, Harrow has become somewhat of an unfriendly place to drink for lone drinkers like myself who like to have a few at the weekend however The Kingsfield had a very homely feel about it.

I was particularly amazed at the generosity of one punter in particular who only referred to himself as Dave, this individual, who didn't know me from Adam bought me at least two drinks in the space of an hour whilst we chatted about love, life and other worldly conundrums.

I would recommend the Kingsfield to anyone in the local area, they do a grwat pint, a decent pie and should you, like myself, find yourself kicking your heels and looking for a friend, just ask for Dave!

Cheers Dave and the Kingsfield!
