The Cuckoo Inn, Hamptworth

Went here for sunday lunch today following a walk around langley wood. The pub was praised for its food and ambience in the walking book we had with us so we thought it would be a good bet for a roast. The pub itself is very pretty from the outside, with a thatched roof and a garden full of flowers. It is a bit of a locals pub, but unlike some has a very friendly atmosphere. Quite small inside but has plenty of seating in the pub garden, including a "meditation and cloud spotting" child-free area! Staff were very friendly and helpful. However, the downside was that they only did baguettes, ploughmans and pasty with baked beans. The baguettes can ploughmans did come in about six varieties (such as stilton or pate or tuna or brie etc). However, we were a little disappointed. The food we had (ploughmans) were very nice though. Staff were very nice too and the pub is a very charming building.

The George, Fordingbridge

Had a lovely meal there last night. It is already in a fantastic location, by the beautiful riverside and next to a bridge. However, this does not prepare you for the ambience and up to date, mellow and stylish decor when you walk in. Soft lighting throughout makes for a relaxed atmosphere. Some tables have table lamps others have candles. The bar is all shiny chrome/glass and more clever lighting. Walk outside and there is a riverside decked seating area, perfect on a summers evening. The staff were really accommodating and our waitress was lovely. They had run out of what my friend wanted so offered her a substitute and charged her for the lower price of what she had wanted. I had one of the specials (moroccan lamb and couscous) which was delicious. Followed this with treacle tart and custard (yummy!). Service was excellent throughout and thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
