Digress, Soho

Now refurbished and called Gem but every bit as awful - certainly not a gem! Rude, slow service - twice had to question if the barmaid always served her friends before people who had been waiting ages and was then served promptly. Badly made cocktails in the wrong glasses.

The Jugged Hare, Pimlico

Not the most atmospheric pub but every time I've been the draught ales have been absolutely perfect. Nowhere else have I had such a clear, fresh pint of Fuller's ESB. The barman with the glasses is very into his ales and always up for a chat about them. Even the Polish bar staff know their beers. Also the toilets are always spotless.

The George Inn, Chideock

Well kept beers, good (but not cheap) food. One of the barmen does the brewery tours in Bridport.

The Anchor, Seatown

Why do they have signs saying no muddy boots etc when there's nothing inside that could get any dirtier anyway? Lovely location but needs some work done to it and beer quality very variable.

The Duke of York, Victoria

Currently closed for refurb, looks very shiny and nearly ready. Good timing to re-open after the smoking ban has kicked in.

Trafalgar Tavern, Greenwich

Absolutely disgusting toilets - not just dirty and flooded floor but in a poor state of repair. The mirror that was meant to be above the sinks was leaning against the wall next to the urinals, one cubicle had no lock and no light and the other was overflowing and due to lack of a dispenser the floor was covered in paper towels that had blown off the ledge. Lovely.

Nice riverside seating and the interior has a certain battered charm, however that look should not extend to the toilets!

The Royal Oak, Borough

Last time I was in the Royal Oak a (rather substantial) steak and ale pie was under 6. Does Banner need an eye test?

Founders Arms, Bankside

I used to like this pub only for the view, and disliked the slightly sloppy service, and the anal attitude - wanted to order drinks, food and a cup of tea and had to go to three different counters to do it! Lately though, the bar staff have been very good -speedy and friendly. Also nice that there's no minimum amount if you want to pay by card.

Oddly, the bottled ales work out better value than the pints - paid 2.40 for a bottle of Kew Brew which almost filled the pint glass, and no spillage. It was also nice being able to order drinks and a cold platter at 11.30pm - the late licence came as a surprise.
