The Chequers, Forest Row

Visited this pub last Sunday for lunch. Pub virtually empty compared to thriving cafe next door. Italian Owner wondering about outside invited us in saying huge menu selection on the board. Started to read the large menu and then was told by bar staff that everything was off except a small Sunday roast menu.
Decided to stay and the 3 of us ordered Sunday lunch roast chicken (over 9 quid). The plates were red hot and the meal looked okay but didn't taste that great. My chicken was OK but something was a bit strange about its flavor and the single pint of London Pride I had was nothing special. On the way out the owner chatted to us stating that he was building additional rooms and gave us a card. He seemed pleasant enough.

About two hours later when I was at a Garden party I started to feel very very ill. An hour later I had to leave and was violently sick when I got home. I hadn't eaten anything at the Garden party so I doubt this was the cause.
During the actual meal the restaurant was very quiet but the chap opposite was discussing with the owner where he bought his chicken from. Thinking back it all seems very strange given that the cafe next door was packed to the brim. I am unlikely to visit this pub again.

The Fox Den, Stoke Gifford

Visited recently, next to Holiday Inn express. Very welcoming & comfortable. Ordered starter & main course. Took ages for the main course to arrive. Food OK but not anything special. Overall a handy place to stop.

The Five and Lime, Guildford

Not somewhere special to visit. Really a lager pub / wine bar. Has a outdoor bit which is cool. But the novelty wears off after a few visits. Music can be great but really should be changed back to a nice pub with a decent pint while keeping its trendy image. You can find a lot worse in Guildford. However it seems to have lost some of it buzz in the last year.

The Mops and Brooms, Borehamwood

Went for lunch. First time since the refit. No space in the garden as very popular when the sun is out. Food has got better with a nice choice. Overall it tries to cater for business customers in the weekdays and families at the weekends. Definitely aimed at getting a more upmarket crowd. Overall worth a visit but nothing really special.

The Mops and Brooms, Borehamwood

Went for lunch. Big garden, Good Beer. Food was good but took a long time to arrive. However the Landlord made up for it by giving a free round of drinks + giving us a phone number and menu to order in advance next time we came.
Apparently this pub is about to be refurbished in September or so they said.

All Bar One, Guildford

Food OK. But sometimes service can be a problem if busy. Overall what you would expect for this type of bar. A nice place to stop but could be improved.

Flares, Guildford

OK if you like the saturday night fever style dance floor. Attracts a very young crowd at times, but tries to cater for everyone. Not worth it if theres a big queue.

The Squirrel at Hurtmore, Hurtmore

Went for Sunday Lunch. lots of parking. More interesting inside than out. Food good (above average) and friendly staff. Only thing that lets it down is the service. Table waiting staff need a little more training. Other than that no other comments. Overall an enjoyable pub with good beer and food.
