The Red Lion, Egham

It seems this pubs management needs serious appraisal of which way it intends to market. Either it wants to be a sports pub or offer top end pub catering. If catering is their priority then please employ staff not dressed in dirty jeans and t shirts serving food between screens showing various football games.
The high street desperately needs a good pub so please do not get it wrong.

At last the High street has got a decent pub back, after shambles of last management. Have visited only a few times since re-opening and overall impressed. Very friendly staff and good selection of beers and lagers.
My only complaint is the claustrophobic feeling because of low ceilings and rather cramped area away from bar.
Another feature of the pub, proudly announced, it would not be a sports pub - football would be shown but with no volume. Last week when I entered, football was being shown with full volume - I hope they have not reversed on that decision so soon.
Overall full compliments to the present management and will continue to support the pub and wish it all success.

The George, Staines

Against my better judgement I had a sunday roast last week.
This was without doubt the worst meal I have ever had in a pub or restaurant.
The lamb seemed to be rather fatty congealed lump of meat without taste and unable to cut. The rest of the meal was completely bland and without any taste whatsoever.
Apart from the food the pub was soulless, scruffy and terrible service.
No matter how low the prices may be, I will never visit this pub again.

The White Horse, Soho

Been to this pub in the past and had pleasant pint reasonably priced and pleasant service. Visited again last week and apparently new landlord - dont know who needed the revamp most - the pub or the staff. I know the days of landlord wearing suit and tie in evenings are gone but when you get a very scruffy landlord in dirty t shirt and jeans bang two crates of beer on counter at 10 pm and start stacking shelves when customers are waiting - well to me that is not good customer service. Beer may be cheaper than surrounding pubs but would rather pay twice as much for better service - not a pub I will visit again.

Yawn Yawn britishairways - you have had your say and now becoming a bore. If you so dissatisfied with the pub then have the courage to speak to Matt direct, otherwise toddle off with your new found friends in Red Lion and Foresters - I dont think they would be so desperate for customers to welcome you.

The Crown, Egham

Not been on this site for ages and surprised to find the old Red Lion/Crown feud still running - must be half term time again for Egham kids. Reading through the posts I notice that iamtheeggman, a new poster on this site, is banging the drum for the Red Lion - even offering legal advice to the management. Then he/she professes to not know who Katie is (lol) - The phrase 'shooting oneself in the foot' comes to mind. May I suggest having a word with Matt or one of his excellent team about lack of loo rolls in ladies.
I support both pubs and would hate to see any more pubs in Egham close. I favour The Crown in evenings because has more atmosphere and friendlier bar staff. Afternoons may have drink in Red Lion when not working. Lets stop the silly sniping and keep comments completely pub related.

The Happy Man, Englefield Green

Lived in Egham for few years and not visited pub - so decided to walk up the hill and pay a visit. This is a small and very welcoming pub with friendly staff and good beer. As previous posters stated, a good mix of regular customers and students. It seems a very simple formula to make a good pub - that is friendly welcoming staff, good beer, why cant other pubs in Egham follow. Will definately visit again.

Noticed one toilet closed for repairs - so perhaps at last we will have decent toilet - can only hope. Still best pub in Egham for mixed varied crowd of customers.

Popped in tonight for couple of drinks and was quite impressed. Reasonable crowd of people, and seemed more upmarket than other Egham pubs. A lot of effort has been put into the pub including the beer garden. I liked the guys running the pub, they were pleasant and very smartly dressed - unlike other Egham pubs where dirty jeans and t-shirts seem to be normal dress. They were having problem with gas on several of the lagers and only one draft beer - hope this is teething problem. Will visit again and try the food as seem to have fairly extensive menu. I wish them well as Egham desperately needs decent pub.

The Beehive, Englefield Green

As one of few pubs in Egham area not been to, thought I would pay a visit. Pleasantly surprised, welcoming atmosphere, good draught beer and friendly landlord and landlady. Although I did not eat the food looked and smelt very appetising and reasonably priced. Will go back again to eat.

Visited pub couple times recently, mainly due to good weather and nice to sit outside and people watch. Found service considerably improved and seem to have efficient bar staff at moment. Good beer and next day the barman remembered what I was drinking previous day and greeted with very polite hello - a small thing that can make such difference to a pub. Will visit again more frequently.

The Monkey's Forehead, Egham

Had quick pint few afternoons ago and was pleasantly surprised. Polite and pleansant service, couple nice real ales on tap. Student orientated but well like to think I am young at heart. Will visit again, just wish from where I live in Egham didnt have the walk up the hill.

As lived in Egham for while thought would give the pub a try. Walked in and nobody serving - waited and waited but still nobody to serve me. Gradually got embarrassed as few people in pub seemed to be stairing at me. After another wait gave up and left. Perhaps I hit the pub at wrong time but sorry - you want the customer you gotta make the effort.

The White Lion, Egham

Agree with previous poster - I noticed work had been done outside so decided to visit. I got to door and about 3 people inside all just looking at me. I felt so uncomfortable I just turned and walked away. Very strange place indeed.

The Red Lion, Egham

Visited the pub, in the evening, with my partner recently and noticed definite imporovement in the atmosphere. Then I realised the Big screen sports coverage TV had dissapeared and unobtrusive music was being played. I really hope the manager has taken notice of previous posts and this is permanent. We have enough pubs with continuous sports coverage so lets welcome a pub as it should be.

The Crown, Egham

Have only lived in Egham for few months and have used this pub few times as always seems to have reasonable amount of customers - other pubs being very deserted mid week. But unfornutately can be very slow service. Tried Sunday roast lunch but this was terrible, beef so tough could not cut and bland vegetables. Perhaps I was unlucky but wont try food again.
