I was there recently. I had a good night - great food, music wasn't too loud, so it was possible to talk properly, unlike many other central London pubs.

The Prospect of Whitby, Wapping

This is worth coming to even just for the river view, but it is also a nice, spacious pub and the food is good. The garden, last time I was in it during the summer, was surprisingly shabby though. The last couple of times I've been here the toilets have not been great.

The Grapes, Limehouse

Great view of the river, good atmosphere. If you a vegetarian be warned that everything on the menu has meat or fish.

The Flask, Highgate

I went here for the first time recently and loved it. A really cozy atmosphere, with little rooms, well heated on a cold evening. I didn't eat there, but my friends who did loved it.
