The Almamata, Egham

a group of us have got in the habit of visiting the Alma Mata, (when will Beerintheevening.com update its name ?) and have always enjoyed a very warm and friendly welcome. The beer is good, the furnishings good, the staff courteous, and on the few occasions I have eaten there the food was first rate.
Just hope it continues in its present manner and doesn't decide to go down-market in order to improve its market-share.

Bells Of Ouseley, Old Windsor

visited at 12.30 on a quiet Tuesday lunchtime in Septembeer and was not impressed. One man serving at bar took 15 minutes to deal with three customers. Ordered a simple sandwich and gave our table number in the garden; 40 minutes later, a complaint to the bar produced the sandwich; instantly ! where had it been ? The sandwich and beer were good, but the garden was serioulsy unkempt, with litter and unwiped tables - presumably from the prvious day. Looks as though some serious management is called for.

The Red Lion, Shepperton

Visited again recently and saw the continuing improvements that the landlord is making. Refurbished front bar, a lounge complete with proper settees leading to a small sheltered patio which is a suntrap; a dining room full of character, (cold or cool according to the time of year) One public bar still to be done though. Outside, work is going on to re-establsih the riverside garden. A lot of work and money has gone into the place and the staff are friendly to newcomers and regulars alike. The Food is freshly cooked with big helpings but the prices are not cheap - share a sandwich and salad as it will fill you up.
Verdict: a good pub well worth a visit, and I bet you will be back.

Have often visited the pub at lunchtime over the past year and found a good friendly welcome. Whether sitting by the river with workmates, on my own, or even with the wife many a pleasant hour I have spent there. The Pride is well kept, and the food comes in rather too large a portion for me and the accompanying salad is always fresh and interesting - no tired lettuce and a slice of hard cucumber here.
My experience of evenings is limited so cannot coment on that but it is an ideal summer lunchtime spot - just a shame about its closeness to the road.
