The Fox on the Hill, Denmark Hill

Has a classy sign up outside comparing the costs of the drinks in the Fox with two nearby pubs - the George Canning and the Sun and Doves. In most cases the drinks are 50p+ cheaper. If you want cheap drinks (and that is your only criteria for a pub) come here, if you want a decent pub with convivial surroundings go to the other pubs.

Funky Munky, Camberwell

Let itself go a bit recently - Dark Horse or Castle better

The Trinity Arms, Brixton

Best if we keep the suburban people who are scared of Brixton and insist on getting taxis everywhere out of this pub which is a real gem. I walk the full length of Coldharbour Lane to this pub and never have any problems

The Landor, Clapham

good standard pub with theatre - little pretension just good

18 Feb 2007 23:20

The Falcon, Clapham North

Agree they dont seem to want to go out of their way to get repeat custome

18 Feb 2007 23:19

The Railway, Clapham North

Agree service does seem a lot to be desired - look if you dont want to serve people in a pub get out of the pub business

Cafe Sol Dos, Clapham

Friends have had nasty food poisoning experiences cafter visiting this restaurant - they attributed it to the nature of the food but I have my doubts

The Metro Restaurant and Bar, Clapham

So cramped

18 Feb 2007 23:14

The Belle Vue, Clapham Common

Should be good but on the occasions Ive been there always disappoints - poor service and a feeling that yo
u're being ripped off dont make for a good pub

The Lavender Restaurant and Bar, Battersea

Watch out for the service charge that is added to your bill

18 Feb 2007 23:08

The George Canning, Denmark Hill

Seems to have improved recently with new menu and more attentive staff. Worth a visit if you're in the area

The Prince of Wales, Pimlico

Reasonable standard pub if you are in need of such a thing - nothing special and certainly not worth going out of the way for but perfectly competent at what it tries. I suppose the best thing about it is that you can usually get a seat.

The Sun and Doves, Camberwell

Whats there not to like?

Excellent free live music every Sunday evening
Free films on Tuesday evenings
Pub quiz last Wednesday of every month
Good food, good drinks, good vibe

(see website for details of films/music)

Babel, Clapham Junction

Friends of mine had a similar experience with the rude manager as previously outlined (although admittedly it was only involving one bottle of wine) and so as a result my friends and I have put an embargo on going to this place. On the one or two previous occasions when I have been here (usually because it looked empty when other pubs were full) I felt it was perfectly adequate but nothing special - it could be any pubco bar in any town in Britain.

Why go here when there are so many other pubs/bars within a five minute walk most of which want to receive repeat custom by offering a good service and not being actively rude to customers? And if you want food how about a restaurant of which there are also a few in the local area.

The Castle, Camberwell

Rather busy on New Years Day as a result of many of the other Camberwell pubs being shut - we had to wait over 75 minutes for our food but as compensation were offered it free by the bar manager. Food seemed to be good standard slightly trendy pub food. Drinks standard too although good wines

The Charles Dickens, Southwark

I was initially sceptical about coming here - I used to work in a nearby street from 97-00 and having visited this pub once dismissed it as a dodgy local - however it seems to have improved greatly with a good range of beers. Thoroughly recommended!

The Well, Hitchin

One of the best in the area

29 Dec 2006 14:15

The Grove, Camberwell Grove

Apparently going to close at the end of Jan '07 for a month or so and then reopen as sparkling new Youngs pub - so no pizzas and probably in the same vain as other newly created Youngs pubs such as the Riverside in Vauxhall.

The Castle, Camberwell

Does seem to have let itself go - everything that made the castle distinctive and different and meant that we willingly made the five minute extra walk from central Camberwell have gone. I hope this place does get better

29 Dec 2006 12:58

Dark Horse, Camberwell

Always good for a sophisticated drink - BRB/ The Grove seems to have let itself go so this pub is a very welcome alternative

29 Dec 2006 12:56

The Raven, Bath

Good pub for this part of Bath

6 Dec 2006 22:48

The Prince of Wales, Camberwell

so much potential - good location, good premises

but no customers

1 Dec 2006 22:14

Jack Beards at the Plough, Camberwell

Standard pub with old men, spots on tele, beer.

1 Dec 2006 22:14

The Grove, Camberwell Grove

Let itself go bigtime... rumour has it that it will reopen as a Young's pub early next year
