The Effra Hall Tavern, Brixton

The really cool thing about brixton is that all the best pubs are hidden away. The effra is a classic example of this and an absolute gem of a boozer. I grant you the choice of beer aint that special (no draught ale) and it has that kind of "am I invisible" service but of course this don't matter when the atmosphere (made better by the live jazz) is as good as it is in the Effra.

The East Dulwich Tavern (EDT), Dulwich

I went in on a Sunday lunch time a few weeks back and they were playing mothership connection by parliament on the stereo. Thats worth at last a ten in my book

Escape Bar and Art, Herne Hill

A trad boozer it aint but seeing as it was a burnt out garage up to a few years ago its a welcome addition to the watering holes in herne hill. The sort of place to head to when the talkings done and hopeless dancing is required. For those "I dont like change" misers who hark back to the crap beer and menace of ye olden herne hill days then ganleys (was brockwell arms) is a good choice.
