The Queens Head, Stow on the Wold

Lovelly little pub in touristy town , exellent Donnigton BB and decent food , recommended .

15 Oct 2009 15:52

The Kings Arms, Oxford

Bit dissapointed with this one , a sort of multi roomed barn of a place lacking any sort of attmosphere , may have just been an off day , Decent beer range and efficint service . As previously stated some intresting overheard conversations .

15 Oct 2009 15:48

The White Horse, Oxford

Great little pub , 6 ales on , tried White Horse Wayward Smithy and Vale Best , both exellent . Staff very friendly and helpfull . This pub is one of my favorites in Oxford . The foods not bad either .

15 Oct 2009 15:40

The Turf Tavern, Oxford

Bit of a sod to find , but worth it , it seems larger than it is and has some low beams for those of us over 6 foot , 10 varied ales on , i tried the Turf Summer Ale , not bad . Clientelle was mostly students and a few locals . Entertainment was provided by a Spanish bloke (one of the students fathers ) trying his first pint of Guiness , his face was a picture . Well worth a visit .

15 Oct 2009 15:35

The Lamb and Flag, Oxford

My favorite pub in Oxford , 6 ales ,including Betty Stogs , Brains Dark , Palmers IPA and L&F Gold brewed by Palmers for the pub . L&F Gold and Betty Stogs were great . Good mixture of Students and locals mix happily with tourists . Its the sort of pub that after 5 minutes you feel as if you have drunk there for years .

15 Oct 2009 15:26

The Grapes, Oxford

Proper city centre pub , good choice of ale , i had a decent Exmoor Gold , and full of characters , barmaids friendly and efficient . Not one of Oxfords more well known pubs (no annoying yanks) but it should be .

15 Oct 2009 15:17

The Eagle and Child, Oxford

As previously stated front rooms are great , the rest of pub just a couple of corridors and a bland back room , beer ok , 4 ales on my visit . Very touristy and full of Americans .

15 Oct 2009 15:12

Dun Cow, Telford

Generic Bankss pub , large lounge and large bar , open plan bar feels a bit like slaughtered lamb , lounge friendlier , only 2 ales on , Bankss bitter , original so had Guiness not that good . OK as a local but not worth a visit otherwise .

4 Sep 2009 22:16

Duke Of York, Trench

Reopened tonight , niclely refurbed and for first time in years looks clean , cheap , guiness 2 30 Carlsberg 1 80 , food looked good , staff friendlly , only gripe pub is a freehose so why GK IPA and Pedigree shows lack of imagination , if they can keep ot the chavs this should be a good local again .

4 Sep 2009 22:11

The Euston Way, Telford

Cannot understand why anyone would come in here other than waiting for a train when theres a cracking little pub , The Lion , a few mins walk away , the food and beer are way better than the bland overpriced crap here .

Duke Of York, Trench

Reopening mid August

3 Aug 2009 18:57

The Yorkshire House, Shrewsbury

This pub has hardly changed in the 25 years i have been drinking in it , only the murals and lifesize figures are recent additions , apart from that its always been the same a bikers and crustys pub , but everyone is made welcome . Only GK IPA and Hen on , but the beer is only a small part of the appeal of this pub , even the wife likes it in here . Believe it or not the Salopian Bar (then the Proud Salopian) used to be like this !!

3 Aug 2009 18:53

The Loggerheads, Shrewsbury

This is one of Shrewsburys must visits , a proper traditional town centre pub unchanged for years as are some of the more eccentric regulars , 6 ales on my visit ,Bankss Bitter ,Bass ,2 from Jennings and 2 from Ringwood , i had Doopledog which was good . If your in Shrewsbury this is well worth a visit .

3 Aug 2009 18:41

The Old Post Office, Shrewsbury

Fairly quite for a Saturday night , Ringwood Doopledog was ok , the Marstons Ashes tasted like watered down Pedigree , not a bad pub .

26 Jul 2009 14:26

18 Jul 2009 22:19

The Compasses Inn, Ketley

Not reviewed for 2 years , decent pub 3 pulls 2 Salopian (hop twister/darwin) and Hobsons bitter all very good , small bar , decor not right , modern wood and white paint dont work , leather sofas dont fit though look comfy , large dining room / carvery at rear . Worth a visit if this end of town

18 Jul 2009 22:16

The White Lion, Telford

Two room pub , the larger given over to dining , 3 pulls in bar Bankss bitter/original and Jennings Cumberland which was poor , was about to walk out after 5mins wait when barman appeared . Poor showing from pub with decent local reputation .

18 Jul 2009 22:10

The Summer House, Telford

Grotty from the outside and not much better in , 6 handpulls none working , small horseshoe bar , landlady very friendly trying to rid pub of violent reputation (which windows broken this week) shes trying hard to not much effect .

18 Jul 2009 22:04

Rose and Crown, Telford

Small two room pub , back room has pool table and darts , bar has two handpulls Pedigree and Spitfire , only pedi on , it was ok . DJ area to rear of bar and small beer garden . Large carpark at rear has reputation as dogging spot .

18 Jul 2009 21:58

The Pheasant, Telford

Closed at presant

18 Jul 2009 21:52

The Horseshoes, Telford

Pub on three levels , bar , pool room with sky then darts room , lounge only reached by going outside and entering by other door , only one draught ale on Bankss original which was ok . Landlord was more concerned with pubs for sale in morning advertiser and cross referencing to map than conversation . Its ok if passing .

18 Jul 2009 21:51

The Elephant and Castle, Telford

Soon to be an Indian Resturant .

18 Jul 2009 21:43

The Three Fishes, Shrewsbury

Rammed at 4-15 on a saturday , bouncer wouldnt let us in ...... pity

4 Jul 2009 23:03

Montgomery's Tower, Shrewsbury

Not to bad a place , lots of comfy seating and 6 real ales , had a pint of Independence Ale not bad just took 10 mins to get served , a couple of druggies in the toilets somewhat let the place down .

4 Jul 2009 23:00

The Hole In The Wall, Shrewsbury

Actually managed to get served , wish i had`nt , worst pint of Hen i`ve ever had left most of it , wifes lager was flat , bloke in front of me complained about his Guiness , barman (barchav) threatened to chin him , avoid like the plague .

4 Jul 2009 22:54

Golden Cross Hotel, Shrewsbury

Oh dear , appears to have turned into a resturant , all tables dressed for dinning , 5 handpulls all with clips turned round , ignored by staff so left , what a shame the oldest pub in town now a resturant .

4 Jul 2009 22:48

Swan Inn, Telford

Strange one this , a pub converted to a resturant now back as a pub , a couple of comfy leather sofas to the left of the main door with a large conservatry style dining room just behind , the bar is straight ahead , more comfy sofas to the right and a small bar area with pool table . It has a very upmarket look but a very friendly feel , in fact its more like a city bar than a village pub . 4 Handpulls on 3 in use Blacksheep , Bombadier and Hobgoblin , had a Blacksheep which was good . Mixed clientele , farmers , older couples eating , teenagers all mix happily (12 30 Friday afternoon ). Well worth a visit if passing .

19 Jun 2009 22:09

The Talbot, Telford

One room pub , no cask ales , bit grotty around the edges , i should really hate this pub , but the atmosphere is very friendly as are the staff . If this place had some decent beer it would be great .

15 Jun 2009 18:02

Alexandra Inn, Oakengates

Visited as part of Wrockwardine Wood , Oakengates ,St Georges crawl , 6 cask ales on , 4 from Black Country Brewery , i had BFG it was ok , mate had Fireside which was exellent . Very quite for a Saturday night , but friendly . Worth a visit as part of the Oakengates real ale triangle , Crown ,Station , Alex .

14 Jun 2009 16:30

The Bush, Telford

Single room pub just up the road from The Albion , Dont know how much longer this pub will be open as its freehold is for sale . Its a dump from the outside but clean and tidy inside . No cask ales on though there are four handpulls , locals not the friendliest and barman didnt seem bothered . This is a pub on its last legs .

14 Jun 2009 16:22

The Albion, Telford

Single room pub just up the hill from Oakengates , small dining area to the left , lounge straight ahead , bar to the right . Terraced beer garden with a small kids play area with good views over the Shropshire plain . Three cask ales on Marstons Bitter , Pedigree and Bankss Original , occasional guests , not the most inspiring range but well kept and served . Landlord is very friendly as are the locals . Well worth the 5 minute walk from Oakengates .

14 Jun 2009 16:15

The Oddfellows Arms, Wellington

Nicely refurbished , single room pub with small side room with pool table . About a dozen customers friday afternoon , mostly teenagers with a couple old boys at the bar , nearly tripped over a badly parked pushchair on way in , not a good start . Barmaid was pleasant enough , two ales on tap Wye Valley HPA and TT Landlord , the HPA was ok . Seems a decent attempt to revive this pub will try to call again at night for a proper look .

13 Jun 2009 18:23

The Kings Head, Telford

Alchol problems , drug addictions , social missfit , history of violence ,if you have any of these problems you will feel right at home here .

5 Jun 2009 22:38

White Horse, Cheslyn Way

Was taken here for Sunday Lunch by friends , typical could be anywhere Bankss pub , bit tatty on outside . Totally different inside , lively bar and small comfortable lounge with conservatry dining area , large beer garden with great kids play area . 5 handpulls Brains SA , Rev James , Bankss Original, Bitter , i had Jennings Lakeside Stunner which was good . Food was very good , plentifull and cheap . Despite initial missgivings the service is exellent as is the beer and food , will visit again .

5 Jun 2009 22:31

The Three Horseshoes, Newport

Gem of a pub midway between Market Drayton and Newport . Small comfortable lounge , lively bar and small dining area . 5 handpulls Salopian Shropshire Gold , St Austell Tribute , Three TunsXXX , Marstons Pedigree and Bankss Original , though these are ever changing , the Gold, Tribute and XXX were all fantastic , the locals very friendly as was the Landlord . This is one of the best pubs in Shropshire and the best in this part of the county , well worth finding .

2 Jun 2009 20:32

The Fountain, Telford

One room pub , pool table at one end , slightly raised area to left of entrance with dartboard acts as stage for bands , lounge type area to the right . No real ale on only fizz or smooth , barmaid totally disintrested in serving unless to locals . This used to be a cracking little pub , not anymore .

2 Jun 2009 20:13

Duke of York, Telford

Sports bar style pub next door to the Station and across the road from the Crown . Lounge has usual big screens showing sporting events . Three real ales on Bankss original / bitter and Hook Norton 303 which i had (not bad ) . During the day you get a mixed bunch from the local alkies to grannies and workers having the Fish and Chips 99p special , at night and weekends a younger crowd but with a good few oldies . A good pub of its type .

1 Jun 2009 20:49

White Horse, Telford

Large tatty looking pub across the road from the Bulls Head . Large bar and smaller lounge , clientelle mostly in the more mature age group , only a few under 40 . Very friendly and chatty Landlord as were the locals . Only one real ale on Marstons Dragons Tale which was ok . Landlord said he only got real ale in for the old boys as none of the other locals drank it . Overall a decent pub .

1 Jun 2009 20:35

Trench Tavern, Telford

Bigger than it looks from the outside , basically a one roomed pub but with seperate areas , pool and darts at far end . Landlord seemed a bit dour , though he did try to make conversation , he just was`nt very good at it . No real ale on just Bankss Smooth . I can`t see any reason to visit .

1 Jun 2009 20:26

Red Lion, Telford

Small one roomed pub on quite dead end road , dartboard to the left of the entrance , main drinking area to the right in a basically C shaped room . There is a lovelly little beergarden with small kiddies play area . No food served but a couple of locals had Pizza delivered and ate it in bar with no fuss from Landlord . Only one real ale , Tetley Bitter , although not a favorite was well kept . The staff and regulars were very friendly . This is a cracking little pub and would rate higher if only they had a few more ales on .

1 Jun 2009 20:19

Blue Pig, Telford

Small two roomed pub at the bottom of the old Trench canal incline on the banks of the Trench Pool . Small comfortable lounge and a small narrow bar with a raised area at one end for darts . 3 handpulls in each room , Bankss Original , Marstons Bitter and a guest beer , the Original is exellent . This is the last proper pub in Trench a real locals local . The name comes from the Pig Iron that was transported from the nearby ironworks on the canal .

1 Jun 2009 20:08

The Oddfellows Arms, Wellington

Just reopened , apparently going to be a real ale pub , will review in a few weeks .

31 May 2009 22:46

The Bridge Inn, Telford

Called in on mini crawl of Trench/ Wrockwardine Wood asked for pint of Bankss Original as this was only handpull , got pint of Smooth "we don`t sell cask" why wer`nt the pumpclips turned round ? It would have been nice to be asked first . Won`t bother again .

31 May 2009 22:42

Duke Of York, Trench

Closed , that lasted a long time about 2 months .

30 May 2009 23:03

The Bulls Head, Wrockwardine Wood

Gone downhill since last visit , 3 real ales on Black Country BFG , Saddlers and Salopian Gold which was poor . Barman seemed more intrested in TV than serving customers , atmosphere very dodgy , not the pub it should be .

30 May 2009 22:56

The Black Horse, Wellington

Planning permission for change of use to some sort of health therapy place is ongoing.

27 May 2009 20:46

The Duke Of Wellington, Marylebone

First impression not great but very friendly service , three ales on Black Sheep , London Pride and Deuchars . Pleasant enough outside to sit in the sun and watch the world go by .

24 May 2009 19:50

The Thomas Botfield, Telford

Large very open plan pub , much like a canteen , understaffed like many a wetherspoons , beer ok , atmosphere crap , group of drunks hanging around by door upsetting people seemed to be friends of manager , not the best but little choice out here .

25 Apr 2009 22:57

The Severn Gorge, Telford

Large open plan , food pub , very quite (saturday afternoon) no cask ales on , had a Guinness not good , food looks good value . Needs a referb , tatty aroud edges .

25 Apr 2009 22:51

The Three Fishes, Shrewsbury

Not as good as last visit but still ok , seems to have gone a bit yuppy for me . I remember Carol Decker (t/pau) working here but i also remember the keyboard players girlfriend at the Unicorn in telford

29 Mar 2009 00:14

The Shrewsbury Hotel, Shrewsbury

Wife liked her wine , my pint (ruddles ok) , told food would be 15 mins and it was , it`s ot a bad jd

29 Mar 2009 00:06

The Coach and Horses, Shrewsbury

Love this pub , good beer good food good company , far better than the Benbow .

28 Mar 2009 23:58

The Armoury, Shrewsbury

Very busy (6.30 sat night) 8 realales &1 real cider varied clientel , this is a typical Brunning andPrice pub totally the same yet completly different

28 Mar 2009 23:54

The Admiral Benbow, Shrewsbury

Not a bad pub , just seems to think it`s a great one , my pint of real ale ok , wife`s lager yuk . Worse than expected .

28 Mar 2009 23:46

Duke Of York, Trench

After last review thought i`d give it another try , much cleaner and tidier (why was`nt it done before reopening ?) . A few of the old locals had reappeared and the landlady and barmaids were acting like adults not love struck teenagers (A few people i talked to were in last saturday and felt uneasy with the antics) . Hobgoblin and Deuchars now on , both acceptable , infact landlady seemed to take pride in the condition of the beer . This used to be a pretty good pub and if they manage to keep the idiots out and don`t try to turn it in to a gay bar it could be again .

27 Mar 2009 22:56

Black Horse, Oakengates

Rumour is , soon to be flats

24 Mar 2009 20:32

Peartree Bridge Inn, Oakengates

Soon to be housing

24 Mar 2009 20:09

Duke Of York, Trench

Reopened last night , popped in tonight [saturday] only lounge open , needed redecorating before it closed 6 months ago but it has`nt been very tatty inside , no real ale on only fizz. Barmaids friendly and helpfull but seemed more intrested in snogging each other as did landlady and her girlfriend , felt as though i was invading someone elses party . I`m no prude but teenagers being over active in pubs puts me off my beer , but when its middleaged woman !!!!

21 Mar 2009 22:51

The Nelson Inn, Suckley

Pleasant 2 room pub , ever changing guest beers , food looked good , owners very friendly . Talking to a regular said people travel from all over to pub . Overall a very good village local , good beer , company , food , just a pity i live 50 miles away .

20 Mar 2009 22:53

The Fox, Chetwynd Aston

Large semi openplan , modern country pub . Slightly upmarket with varied clientele . 6 cask ales on my visit , Hobsons best , Shropshire lad and Highgate mild can`t remember the others . Food very good seems to use a lot of local produce , Staff seem quite young but are enthusiastic and knowledgable . Wine is good quality [ bottles not boxed ] . Not the cheapest pub around but well worth a visit .

5 Mar 2009 22:11

Station Hotel, Oakengates

Salopian gold 195 a pint , holdens mild the other permanent real ale 7 guests [ 6 pictish 1 titanic ] a proper no frills boozer , locals friendly and staff knowledgable , the Crown gets most of the plaudits in oakengates [ good pub it is ] but this is better .

4 Mar 2009 23:10

The Crown, Oakengates

Usually come in at weekends but nipped in on weds nite , still fairly busy but totally different atmosphere , small group of guitarists [acoustic] jamming in back room and as i play myself was made to feel very welcome . Hobsons still good , this ain`t a bad pub but a bit better in the week .

4 Mar 2009 23:00

Coalport Tavern, Oakengates

Reopened and nicely refurbished , very quite [ 730 weds nite ] 2 handpulls but no real ale on , no guiness either [ sold out apparently ] just crap Thwaites keg , landlady very friendly and helpfull . Trouble with this pub is position , wrong end of town everybody just walks past it .

4 Mar 2009 22:48

Champion Jockey Inn, Donnington

DEMOLISHED last week soon to be netto/lidl

1 Mar 2009 20:20

The Saddlers, Shrewsbury

Estate pub but friendly enough , beer not bad , handy for new football ground {across golf course} but watch out for local hooligans on match days .

8 Feb 2009 23:31

Station Hotel, Oakengates

The best pub in oakengates ? Probally

8 Feb 2009 23:18

The Bulls Head, Wrockwardine Wood

Agree with comments about bar its proper old tiles and ornate window , beer ok . Lot of undesirebles seem to have migrated up from the now closed duke of york making it a lot less pleasant than previuos visits .

8 Feb 2009 23:13

The Wickets Inn, Wellington

Used to be the best pub in wellington , probally the best bass in telford if not shropshire , but alas nomore now a resturant more than a pub . Food has good reputation but no good for drinkers.

8 Feb 2009 23:07

The Plough Inn, Wellington

It can be a little cliquey in here , you can understand it with all the chavs in wellington , who wouldnt be wary , but it is a friendly local underneath and the guiness is good .

8 Feb 2009 23:01

The Beacon, Wellington

Main product on sale appears to be coke and not the sort in bottles , more lads in toilet than at bar , dress code fake burbery and trackies , what a dump .

8 Feb 2009 22:52

The Crown, Oakengates

Like it in here , trouble like all pubs with large selection of beer if you choose one of the less popular ones its not so good , the hobsons is exelent though . Locals seemed ok , a few from town a few from telford {locals will know what i mean } . Overall a decent pub .

8 Feb 2009 22:44

The Claddagh, Oakengates

Agree with both previous reviews , ok in the week but can be very dodgy at weekend , beer cheap but crap

8 Feb 2009 22:29

The Thomas Botfield, Telford

Not my sort of place really , beer not bad , atmosphere more like a canteen than pub {saturday afternoon} . As previous review says nowhere else to drink in this part of telford so everthing in here from old grannies to tattooed thugs and all life in between .
