The Scolt Head, Islington

Sun and Guardian were both on display when I went in here for a meal and a pint. This pub is somewhere between being an old man's pub and a hipster hangout. They have three handpumps, and the ales are ok, the food is ok, but there's something missing that would make me want to return. Although the interior is very nice and spacious, the pub has a tired feel.

The The Old Monk Exchange, Westminster

Went into this pub last week, in the evening. Not very many in there, and was surprised to see it's all underground.

Some nice nooks with wooden tables, the space feels well looked after.

Had the best pint of ale I've had in ages, the lines are obviously kept very clean, and the barman I spoke to seemed passionate about serving the best quality ale.

However it's a bit pricey, think it was 3.50 a pint, which is a deterrent to someone quite skint. But the thought of that great pint will bring me back there.

The Ship and Shovell, Charing Cross

Nice place, had Pickled Partridge (3.30) on draft as well as two other Badger ones. Only have three bottled Badgers additionally, bit disappointing, but might be different on the other side. Sat in the area upstairs on the smaller side of the street. Very nice, stayed for two pints and left happy.

The Penderel's Oak, Holborn

Lovely pub, they've got a variety of ales on at any given time. Lots of tables, a cosy spot guaranteed. Nice food, good value, this is my "safe choice" for a night out.
