The Brickyard, St Albans

Went there once, hideously LOUD, massive queue at the bar and choc full of over-dressed wine-bar city types. The spotted bull wasn't great and I never expected to mourn it's passing, but....

Kings Arms, St Albans

Ceased to be a pub in the early years of the 21st century. Has had a number of incarnations since and is currently 'Dylans'

Savanna @ The Black Lion Inn , St Albans

No longer there. The buldin gahs been converted to 'luxury' apartments, so it won't be coming back either. Another one bites the dust.

The Six Bells, St Albans

Recently moved into the area and have rediscovered the Six Bells. Brilliant pub, good food and good beer, well kept. The bar service is always excellent even when they're really busy and the ambience is excellent. Have visited about six times in the last three months and I cannot fault the place.

The Lower Red Lion, St Albans

In there with five others on Friday for beer and fish 'n' chips. Absolutely superb food and excellent service from pleasant staff. On top of that the usual wide selection of well kept quality ales, and not too crowded. Still one of the top few in Stalbans.

The White Hart Tap, St Albans

Good pub for a pint or two. Not terribly exciting on the beer front but always well kept and a good garden when the weather's up to it. Wouldn't recoomend for food, especially on a Friday. Booked there recently only to find we only had a 1 1/2 hour slot on the table and the average fish 'n' chips were both pricey and served with less than good grace. Probably this place is full anyway so they don't have to be overly fussy about service.

The Boat, Berkhamsted

Four of us popped in for a drink, a bite, and a warm-up after strolling up the canal path from Hemel in the rain. Excellent food, nice beer - Fullers - and very helpful and pleasant staff, even helping us get our wet clothes dry on the radiators on the flat upstairs. They even popped by and asked if it was OK to change the TV over for the Rugby. Either ThristyDrinker was very unlucky, or his comments have had the desired effect. We'll be back.

The Old Maypole, Water End

Last time I was past this place (2010) it was closed and had been so for some time. Sadly, therefore, another one appears to have bitten the dust.

The Bull, London Colney

There last Wednesday after disappointment at the Green Dragon. This place is a pleasant surprise. Black Sheep in extemely good condition (they had others but we didn't get to them) and absolutely lovely home made food. Evening food's only on Wednesdays which is a shame - just have to go there for lunch I suppose).

Very well maintained traditional pub run by competent and caring personnel. Sadly the location is such that I suspect it gets passed by far more often than it should.

The Green Dragon, London Colney

This is an annoying pub. The location is excellent, the building lovely and well maintained and the interior clean and inviting, even the staff are pleasant. Trouble is, once again they wern't doing food when I was there (a Wednesady, apparently they were "short staffed" but, frankly that's just unprofessional and the lack of any apology didn't help). Only ale choice was Adnams or Pride, tried an Adnams and it was in very poor condition and tasted watery.
