The Red Lion, Dover

The first time i have used this pub in my life and i must say what a bit of a surprise the place is great. Best pint of beer i have had in dover so far on my many visits.
The place is nicely done out and more importantly clean.
The barmaid was a good laugh and the locals welcoming and very friendly and could hold very good conversation.
I felt at home and very welcome.
The garden is nice cant wait to sit in the garden and enjoy a nice pint in the summer at this pub.
Will most certainly visit again

The Duchess, Dover

Been in a couple of times over the last few weeks.
landlord a bit grumpy, but who isn't in these days.
Beer is very good and really cheap 2 a pint up to 5pm
locals seemed friendly but not many of them only 5 people on first visit and 3 on second. maybe recession is worse than i thought with beer at 2 a pint i though the place would be packed.
Still at least the landlord is trying and once word gets about maybe things will pick up for him. I hope so anyway at least he is trying to get customers.
I will most definitely use this pub again on my next visit to Dover

The Coastguard Inn, St Margarets Bay

Went to this pub on Friday 25/11/11 and found what a little gem this place is. We found the food excellent the service very good and a very relaxed atmosphere in the pub in general.
OK the place could do with a lick of paint but i am sure this will come in time.
As for the previous comment people like you TONYENGLAND make me want to vomit, next time take your kid to McDonald's then he can just have his chips cant he? instead of bothering hard working people in such a lovely little pub.

The Old Endeavour, Dover

Popped in the other day on my way home from work. new landlady Debs is a lovely person friendly and chatty.
What a wonderful job she has done transforming a place that was a complete run down dive known for its drug activities in the past.
Dont take my word for it go along and see for yourself Dover NEEDS MORE PUBS LIKE THIS.

The Golden Lion, Dover

sahara.
the only sign i see at the golden lion the other day when i went by was the one that stated the place was now permanently closed.
oh dear what happened???? was it the tax man? health and safety? or was the brewery realized what a tosser the landlord was and decided to close the place for good measure.
i cant wait for your answer

The Red Cow, Folkestone

When i lived in Folkestone i was a regular of the Red Cow for years and always found it to be a great place with a good landlord and landlady and the regulars was a good bunch to.
How times can change, i visited the pub over xmas for the first time in years and was rather gob smacked with what i found a few of the faces i used to know was present but there seamed a bit of an air of sadness in the place and not what i was expecting.
I was sad to see the look on a lot of the faces, (this reccesion has got a lot to answer for)
still on the bright side the beer was excellent the place was as warm as toast and the bar staff was great.
I hope to make another visit shortly WHEN THE WEATHER IMPROVES

The Lord Nelson, Dover

I visited this pub again over the xmas holidays and found it to be the most welcoming pub in Dover i have been in so far .
The landlord and landlady are really nice people, some may say the beer is a bit on the expensive side but in my opinion a nice pint is served with good hospitality from them.
The locals are a nice bunch and the atmosphere was generally
welcoming. the place seemed a bit empty but bare in mind this is a large pub and 20 punters looks like no one was in the place!!!!
Colin & Sandra you are doing a great job and i am sure more people in Dover will soon get to know the good job you are doing. Also it was great to see the former landlord Pete of the Ren as it was locally using the pub

The Golden Lion, Dover

Gunner 1 to enlighten you i never have anyone behave prattish towards me as you put it.
Obviously you are thick as shit as prattish is not a word that is in the English dictionary but you obviously think it is.
I was just wondering do you think central heating and hot water are still luxurious in pubs in 2011.
I believe you that you are not the landlord. Even he is not as stupid as you are.

The Lord Nelson, Dover

visited this pub on a very cold day both the building and the landlady gave me a warm welcome. The beer is great. The locals are a friendly bunch. The place is spotlessly clean. well worth a visit. I will certainly go back.

The Golden Lion, Dover

Visited this pub the other day. What a dump. The place is run by a rude dense Scottish Pratt who has a very high opinion of himself and his nauseating Bet Lynch type of wife who had to nip out for a fag about every 10 minutes. The customers are just as thick, they are a variety of losers and general morons from the surrounding area. All i can say is that the previous comments must have been made by the landlord himself. when i visited it was one of the coldest days of the year and the central heating appeared not to be working but a selection of obviously untested calor gas fires and other heating appliances seemed to be scattered about. In an effort to strike up some sort of conversation with one of the locals i remarked had the heating broken down the reply i got was "it ain't worked for years mate" unfortunately i had to visit the toilet that had no hot water to wash yours hands with and the toilets did not smell to good either. The general appearance inside and out takes some getting used to the outside appears to be quite neat and tidy except for the rubbish skip by the front door. The inside must have been decorated some time ago as it is showing signs of decay. the pub is very poky and no one has any room to move, the furniture looks as if it was found at the local dump or should be taken there at least, the pool table is located in a space that is far to small and i am sure was presenting a problem to the people who was attempting to play. the pub also seemed to double for a crche as on the day i visited what seemed to be all the local single mothers had decided to be in the pub to spend there benefits. In all i would not revisit this pub and felt i had been cheated out of my money as the beer is not cheap in this pub and on my next visit to Dover i will avoid the Golden Lion and try a different watering hole.
