Hogsmill Tavern, Worcester Park

Disappointed in the service. I agreed to wait an hour for a table for two. But once there, the waiter ignored our presence - so unable to order a starter. Went straight for Carvery, but the roast potoes had run out. Polish speaking server got some fresh roasted potatoes, whilst plates left under infra-red heaters. Once hot, the overall meal was good - but still no sign of the waiter designated to oversee his patrons. So left, leaving the basic amount required.

Do not recommend this establishment to anyone....

Rubbing House, Epsom Downs

Location is good. Staff mainly from Australia and S.Africa. Visited recently on 3rd December.
Waited very quickly, but starters took a bottle of wine between 3 persons before showing up. Main food not hot and asked for the meal to be reheated. Noticed other patrons weren't happy with their meal heat. Waiter apologised and returned a hot meal.

It is becoming obvious that Pub/Restaurants of this statue, are more and more using Brake Brother foods, and the 'so called chef' only has to reheat the prepared meal and lay the food out to look good. As everthing is geared to supply, no courtesy is promoted in the presentation of the meal. The most annoying feature is presenting a HOT meal with HOT vegetables.

Sorry, but I'd rather go to the extra expense of having a meal freshly cooked, rather than some promoted item that came out of 'Iceland'.

Hogsmill Tavern, Worcester Park

Unfortunately the Hogsmill has become a Toby Carvery. Visited the other Monday lunchtime and soon became disappointed. The Garlic Button Mushroom starter was obviously microwaved as it was a mushy sauce, and contained no real flavour. A typical Brakes Food starter. The carvery meat was very dry and the Servers weren't interested in providing any small tasty bits. The roast potatoes were again pre-heated and dry. The gravy was salty - another Brakes Food problem. Lost interest in the food and the service. Lets hope they improve as their local flyer advertises some good evening menus. But it is obviously provided by Brakes Food and just re-heated as required. No real presentation. But at 7.50 per evening, it will please some people. Have lodged a comment on the Toby website. But will try again as it has just opened and may be suffering from teething problems. The Carvery servers speak little English.

The Walnut Tree, Runcton

Very disappointed. Booked for 13.00 for a party of 6 on Sunday 14/10/07. Arrived 13.10. Showed to table. Selected from vast blackboard menu. Waitress took drinks order within 10 minutes. Took food order within another 10 minutes. No Roast Beef available. It took another 45 minutes for the food to arrive. Waitresses present what appears to be hot plates - far from it. Plates luke warm. Typical Brake Brothers pub food heated in oven/microwave. Member of our party had to ask for the Duck to be re-cooked. Potatoes could have been from previous day - no flavour. Service not good and would not recommend. The kitchen staff could not obviously cope with a busy clientele. Why do Pubs insist on Brake Brothers pre-prapared food if they cannot heat to an acceptable standard with good presentation and at reasonable prices. The Pinot Blanc charged at 11.90 could be bought in for 4.95. No would not go there ever again.

The Derby Arms, Epsom Downs

Ate here last night (29/08/07) with friends and was extemely disappointed with the food. Again, another who buys in food from Brake Brothers. Chose Roast Half Duck with orange sauce, new potatoes and vegetables. Asked for the Duck to be extra cooked for crispy skin. The result was appalling and embarrassing. The Skin was soft and in peeling away from the meat it had strands - not nice. The meat was not cooked very well and within seconds I had lost my appetite. The new potatoes were roasted and the vegetable was just a green salad type. The Scampi my friends ate was 40% scampi and 60% batter shell. After a quiet comment to the female Restaurant Manager I was not charged for my meal. I also noted other diners had left amounts on their plates.

Why do these establishments buy in food from Brake Brothers? Unfortunately, this is the second time I have found Pub food supplied by Brake Brothers awful.

Queen Adelaide, Ewell

Took a family party of six recently after hearing good news, and was not let down. The staff was excellent, the carvery was great and you can get the juicy bits if you ask. You can get as much as you want. No problem - but do get there early to get a good table. Very pleased with the service and Manageress was interested in your thoughts. Will go again.
