The Jeremy Bentham, Bloomsbury

One of the best in the area. Always has a good selection of good real ales
well kept, and a good variety of bottled beers.
Had a non-smoking area upstairs for about
6 months, then the pub was taken over and was smoking again.
The renovation at the start of 2005 kept the same traditional feel,
although the last time I went upstairs still feels a bit bare.

Given that this is in the heart of UCL you'd expect such a good pub to
be swamped by students, but it has more staff than students. I guess
its not trendy enough.

The Bar at tcr, Tottenham Court Road

I'm more than happy if you like this pub, it keeps you
out of the decent nearby pubs.

The Mortimer Arms, Bloomsbury

Good compromise pub, Better pubs nearby though..
Usually has one real ale and a discount on Tetley's.
often busy but you can normally find a table in the corner.
Great for watching sports, not good on the food front (I once overheard
one of the bar staff responding to a client who thought they'd
been brought the wrong order " ... a pannini is a toasted baguette").

Fitzroy Tavern, Fitzrovia

A Sam Smiths chain pub. No real ale, but good cheap tap beer.
Don't be conned by the "German" wheat beer, its brewed in England and
is not great quality.
Generally has a good vibe, but has lots of large groups of rowdy
drinkers. Inside, the music is too loud in the evening and if you can't
get a table there's too much pushing past to be relaxed. So it's better in summer
when you can stand outside.

The Hope, Tottenham Court Road

Good Pub, Great real Ale and bottled Belgian beer.
Good atmosphere, although the bar staff are too busy to be friendly.
Biggest problem is that its too busy in the after work session
for the size of pub, usually clears enough by 7.30 though.
