Bishop of Norwich, Moorgate

This pub has been closed down for some weeks. A victim of Crossrail.

The Scottish Pound, Moorgate

This pub has not existed for sometime. That this site has not been updated in this respect reduces confidence in other entries.

The Old Doctor Butler's Head, Moorgate

Great pub with good beer and good staff. Lunchtime food in restaurant upstairs is good with good service but being in the city, is not cheap.

The Globe, Moorgate

This suffers from over popularity due to its location and the possibility of standing outside to drink in good weather. It employs some of the worst staff I have encountered in the city. Not always their fault as they seem to receive no training whatsoever. They should concentrate on the beer and forget about the food.,

Woodins Shades, Liverpool Street

A good standby when other city pubs are closed. Traditional pub layout except when the big TV screens are working but they attract big crowds to see the football and rugby. So I suppose that keeps the good choice of beers flowing. Staff are usually friendly and efficient.

The Lord Aberconway, Liverpool Street

A good pub with excellent beer - Timothy Taylor's Landlord, Pride and frequent guest beers - and very good staff. The food is nothing special but it is adequate and cheap.

Bishop of Norwich, Moorgate

Good beer, friendly staff and mostly not too crowded despite being bang in the middle of the city. They have moved on from Courage to a slightly superior source but still confuse the issue by using their own names. They also offer reasonable snacks and of course a far better range of wines than any standard pub. A bit pricey but maybe that keeps out undesireables.

The Duchess of Kent, Barnsbury

The Duchess runs a good weekly quiz because of which I and some friends eat there more or less each week. The joint opinion is that the food is first class but the menu changes rarely. The beer is first class. Arsenal home games make most of Islington not the place to be. This is not a reflection on football or its followers but on overcrowded bars and overstrained transport systems. Mind you they do tend to be lager only drinkers.
