Larwood & Voce Tavern, Trent Bridge

Has undergone an extreme makeover and couldn't fail to be an improvement on the filthy chavhole it once was. Sadly it's far more gastro than pub these days, food looks decent though it's far from cheap. Popular with families, far too many of whom are from West Bridgford's brigade of yummy mummys, their repugnant spoilt offspring and their worn down husbands (who'd clearly much prefer to be in a proper boozer). A decent enough place to take visiting in-laws but you wouldn't make it your local.

The Henry VI, Eton

Cracking boozer, decent ale, great live music from the fabulously versatile Steve on Sunday nights - ranges from 'Carrickfergus' to Green Day, Gershwin to the Jam, Billy Joel to the Pogues. A splendid night out.

The Battle of Trafalgar, Brighton

Cracking little boozer, the hill's not that steep. Tempting to soak up sun and Harvey's in the garden and not bother with the sea.

The Showroom Bar and Cafe, Sheffield

A handy haven if you've just missed a train. Also a safe bet if you're an away fan wearing colours much disliked at Bramall Lane...

Foremans Bar, Nottingham

Last went in here after seeing 'This Is England' at the Showcase, was like it was still 1982. Long may it continue to intimidate the anodyne masses.

The Dragon, Nottingham

Rare proper pub in the centre of town, decent pint of Adnams, good food, friendly bar staff, always lively but not usually heaving. Wish there were more like this...

Up and Under, Nottingham

Please can somebody buy this soulless dump and turn it back into the Newshouse...now THAT was a pub...

The Approach, Nottingham

Owned by the same people as the Southbank. Live music most nights (covers bands), then 60s/70s/80s disco. Clientele tends to be 30s/40s on the pull. Better than most of the meatracks nearby but no way does it rate 9/10.

Knights Templar, Bristol

Better than many Wetherspoons as not too chavvy, good value as ever, hardly a destination pub but worth the 2min detour from the station.

The Bunch of Grapes, London Bridge

Liked this place so much I missed my last train. Decent ale and service, pleasantly tipsy Irish OAPS singing the auld songs in the courtyard.

The Vat and Fiddle, Nottingham

Splendid pint of Meadows Gold, Kipper the cat made us welcome before curling up on the window ledge. Infinitely better than the more sanitised Stratford Haven & Kean's Head.

The Birkbeck Tavern, Leyton

Excellent selection of ales, nice garden, friendly Orient fans, well worth seeking out.

The Bell, Yeovil

Decent pint of Abbot. Staff were very on ball considering the place was heaving prior to the Yeovil v Forest playoff, didn't have to wait more than 90secs to get served at any point. Didn't eat so can't comment on food, but this is definitely the best option within walking distance (15-20mins) of Huish Park.
