The Wilcove Inn, Wilcove

The friendliest pub within easy reach of Torpoint - I haven't tried the food but the menu looks pretty decent. The ale is very well kept; when I was there they offered four ales on hand pump: Doom Bar, St Austell's Trelawney Harvest Ale; Otter Bitter and Bay Best.

There is a folk music session every other Monday evening at which all levels of ability are made very welcome.

The Devon and Cornwall, Millbrook

Choice of ales has now changed: Directors; Otter; Courage Best. Live jazz still happening on Mondays. Curry night on Tuesdays (very popular and very inexpensive).

The Salutation Inn, East Looe

For my money, the best pub in Looe (and I've tried most, if not all, of them). Warm and welcoming. No television (hooray). Well kept ale; the Doom Bar was very nice when I was last there on Fri 23rd Nov 2007. Lunchtime food is inexpensive and tasty. The lamb hotpot being pronounced particularly good by my companions. If you're in Looe, I recommend this place as first port of call before any others.

The Salutation, Doncaster

Probably the only thing worth being in Doncaster for. Miserable, grubby, grotty town. Lovely warm, friendly pub with excellently kept ale. Could do without the television in the main bar area, but it's easily escapable.

The Dolphin, Plymouth

What a pub should be. Down to earth, unfussy and old fashioned. Don't want to drink beautifuuly kept Bass from the barrel? Go somewhere else - 'coz that's what they do here. It's a genuinely friendly place and it's got atmosphere in spades. A mecca for proper pub goers and ale lovers who shun loud juke boxes and the outlets nearby that peddle silly alco-pops to the barely legally aged drinkers who inhabit so much of the Barbican. Three cheers for the Dolphin, long may it remain unchanged.

The Inn at Freshford, Freshford

As a former Freshforder (born and bred) it's nice to see some decent reviews of The Inn. It's been very much an eating house rather than a pub for many years now, which is a shame for locals who just want to enjoy a pint. On the plus side, it's in a beautiful setting and has character in spades. If you're passing that way, it's got to be worth dropping in.

The Alehouse, Bath

Nicely kept ale - as you'd hope from a place with a name like "The Ale House". We found it to be a friendly little corner in a busy setting. Well worth dropping in for a cheeky pint if you're in the area. You can spend a very pleasant hour watching the world go by from the large windows at street level as you sup a nice locally brewed ale.

The Rising Sun, Kingsand

My personal favourite of the Kingsand / Cawsand pubs. Frequented by locals and tourists alike, but being few yards out of sight from the beaches the bucket and spade brigade tend to miss it out (hooray). Decently kept ale (Sharp's brewery is the dominant one here) and a very nice lunchtime menu. The bar area is not large, so seating can sometimes be at a premium on a busy afternoon or evening - but if you can't get a seat there's plenty of other pubs close by and it's worth checking here first.

The Greyhound, Bromham

Lovely pint of "Horizon" ale. Cosy back bar with leather sofas is very inviting. Front bar is a bit spartan, but the staff were friendly, helpful and pleasant. The menu looks great, but I didn't sample anything so can't really comment. Unusual to see the local mayor sittng at the bar in full regalia including chain of office!

The Bell, Standerwick

A very pleasant pub, they keep a decent pint of Fursty Ferret. The Sunday lunch carvery could be more generous with its meat portions, but there's plenty of veg. Recommended as a lunch stop - I've never done an evening there, so go by others' comments.

The Devon and Cornwall, Millbrook

Since being taken over by Russell and Mark, the D&C has become one of the friendliest and best kept pubs in the area. The pool table is gone and the dart board is only usable on match nights. Live jazz currently on Mondays (as at Oct 2007) with a light-bite menu. Full menu served most evenings. Choice of 3 ales (if you include Courage Best) - Sharp's Betty Stoggs, Butcombe's and the aforementioned Courage. The pub has won a Cask Marque for keeping excellent ale.
