The Eagle and Child, Whitefield

friendly bar staff and of course well known for its bowling green at the back. bitter 1.97 for my visit 2 weeks ago - holts pub so you either like the beer, don't or still trying to make your mind up!

Hare and Hounds, Wigan

friendly local - allgates beers - had allgates 'session' bitter on one of my infrequent visits there last week - 2 a pint.

Leaping Salmon, Berwick upon Tweed

visited 3 weeks ago on a thursday - staff not on top of their game with service provided- i.e. not interested in clearing tables, but had the Acorn Barnsley Gold - 1.59 you cannot complain at that price.

The Pilot Inn, Berwick upon Tweed

Friendly pub visited recently on holiday, 2 beers on when I was there, Deuchars and I had the Cairngorm Trade Winds which was decent.

The Ship Tavern, Holborn

pleased to discover this pub in passing this year and made a return visit a few weeks later. good selection of beers on, had wards on amongst others in april when i was last there.

The Bay Horse, Heath Charnock

despite massing this pub scores of times, made first visit 2 weeks ago. pleasantly surprised to see cumberland and adnams bitter on. onlt tried the adams, not impressed though. large pub on corner, nearest to rivington and 15-20 min walk from adlington railway.

Ainsworth Arms, Bolton

Still consistently well kept beers and a well run pub. Had the TT Landlord last night at 2.42 a pint Tetleys on too as well as one or 2? others.

The Strawbury Duck, Entwistle

Visited today, first time in few years. Still a great place to base a walk around (Wayoh and Entwistle reservoirs). A selection of Cains now diminates. Had a pint of the famous old Pendle Witch (Moorhouses), but at 2.55 this is a luxury in price and at 5.1%. The small pool room at the back has had the table removed since the last time I was in, but it still has the small serving hatch.

The Cricketers Arms, Keighley

Busy little pub. Visited on a Thursday evening, as often with this pub meant that there was a band on, making the venue intimate. Good selection of beers, had the Mooorhouses Pride of Pendle. An even smaller cellar open downstairs with a courtyard, half covered! Younger crowd downstairs.

Royal Oak, Keighley

Early evening visit 2 days ago. Had an excellent pint of Landlord. Quite a smart interior with screens showing Rugby League on my visit. Decent pool table. Good atmosphere.

Albert, Keighley

Had the best bitter at 2 this week. Golden on too, but no Ram Tam. Big pub with Sky sports screens and a pool table (which plays very slow and needs re-covering). Nice picture on the wall showing Timothy Taylor and his descendents.

The Boltmakers Arms, Keighley

Excellent small pub. Visited this week - had the full range of TT beers on. Best bitter 2 was spot on as was the Golden. Guest was Ossett Brewery Excelsior and also had Westons scrumpy on draught. Landlady friendly. Big range of real ale related reading material.

16 Jun 2007 20:36

The Brown Cow, Keighley

The range of TT beers but didn't have the Ram Tam on 2 days ago, unless I missed it. 1.94 for a pint of Taylor's Dark Mild. Relaxing atmosphere with a reading corner. Guest beers on from Naylors and Phoenix with Scrumpy on draught too. Also a selection of bottled Belgian beers on.

The Walkabout Inn, Lincoln

Music loud enough to force you to shout to friends. Decent price for a pint of guinness. Only pub I've ever been to with a table full of dildos on it (I believe it was an Ann Summers party - yes in a pub).

The Lamb and Flag, Lincoln

In there recently on a Thursday evening, busy with all ages in. Karaoke on, 21st party etc. lively and harmless.

The Sir Ralph Abercrombie, Manchester

Not been in here for a couple of years but enjoyed long lunches and drinking the Cains, it was always spot on. Friendly landlord who was good at getting the Test Match on early doors.

Sam's Chop House, Manchester

Just as well known for it's food rather than drink, you can usually get a choice of ales in here. On the expensive side. Bar staff very attentive; had a pint of Boddies in there the other week.

Railway & Naturalist Inn, Prestwich

The map is wrong! The map shows it as being on Bury Old Rd.

Railway & Naturalist Inn, Prestwich

Often admired the name of this pub in passing. Must give it a try one day.

Corbieres Wine Cavern, Manchester

Until recent visit, hadn't been in for several years. Hasn't changed much though from what I can see. The good news is that a very good pint of Pacific was had for 2. (Face from behind the bar ex-Kings Arms would explain this). Looks to have a very good affordable menu and I know from others that the food is respected.

test 16, Manchester

Great favourite. Bar staff friendly, you always feel relaxed and welcomed here. Usually have about 6 beers on. I always seem to stick with the Tetleys though(always on), at around 2 a pint, can often be the only one less thab 4%.

The Briton's Protection Hotel, Castlefield

Recent visit reminded me what an individual pub this is and must be sought out on a pub crawl or visit to Manchester. The beer garden at the back is a great unknown, even to many time served Manchester drinkers (and recommended if summers arrives). Good choice of beers and other drinks. Had the Jennings at the end of a recent crawl.
