The Dukes Head, Putney

I have to agree to some extant - It does seem a little smart/ lost now - I prefered it when it was a bit rough around the edges, and it does seem quite expensive! Having said that, the food was pretty good and the staff friendly - so it didn't arouse such extreme feelings in me as some of these comments..

The Stonhouse, Clapham

Well this place is causing a bit of a commotion! I'd highly recommend it. I've been a few times and been really impressed. It's clearly not a local boozer - more of a steakhouse (looks great) - but I'm surprised by the negative views, as I've found the staff really friendly and efficient, and the food extremely good. As for bad wine: perhaps the bottle was corked?! Maybe it's just teething problems - hasn't been open long. Can't be doing a bad job considering how busy it seems to be!

The Grove, Balham

I have to agree with the earlier review - thank goodness they've got rid of the previous 'spartan hotel lobby'! So much better now. Staff friendly as always, food and wine not bad; I'd be more likely to go for a drink than supper..

The Nightingale, Balham

Lovely place. I always enjoy the garden when the rain gives us a break! Perfect for a nice relaxed drink or two.

The Phoenix, Chelsea

I used to go here a lot; it's changed a bit in the last few years. Not as great as it used to be, but I have to say i had a pretty good evening - friendly waitress, food was perfectly OK, though it didn't set the world alight.. Obviously the manager has rubbed some people up the wrong way - he didn't serve us so I can't comment. not at all bad in my experience though.
