The Palmer Flatt Hotel, Wensleydale

Beer OK but fairly soulless place. Didn't hang around for a second pint.

The Golden Rule, Ambleside

A wonderfully warm and welcoming genuine pub. Always friendly, both the staff and other customers, you can be sure of having a chat, even if you've come in on your own. Always half a dozen well-kept cask beers on (all from Robinsons though as it's a tied house). I make a point of visiting every time I'm in Ambleside and have even been known to go out of my way to visit Ambleside just to call into the Rule! It really is that good.

Hales Bar, Harrogate

Wonderful interior full of character, good range of well-kept cask beers and friendly, welcoming (and very lively) bar staff. Food OK but nothing special, however the beer and the atmosphere are the main focus here. Highly recommend a visit.

The Three Horse Shoes, Barnard Castle

What could be a reasonable pub sadly dominated by big-screen TV and overly loud music. Excellent value food, good size portions for under 5 but unfortunately no real ale available on my visit. [visited 28/02/09, lunchtime]
