The Stand Up Inn, Lindfield

James, I wasn't apportioning any blame to anyone. I'm merely saddened by the news and hopeful that Dark Star are looking after their employees and not just their brand. There's no doubt that the brewery have done great things for that pub, but you need to remember that it works both ways. You may well have a shiny new 'brewery tap' in Partridge Green, and the untouchable Evening Star, but the Stand Up was a way of life and it was home to people. Look after them. Please.

This is such sad news and my heart goes out to Jo, Lou, all the staff and all the regulars. Hopefully the owner will see sense and keep it running as the best pub for miles, as it has been for years - the heartbeat of the village. It would appear that Dark Star have finally become too big for their boots. They owe so much to the Stand Up for bringing their brand to the people of Mid Sussex, and I hope they have, at the very least, done the decent thing and given severance pay to the staff and managers.

I have to agree with village_drinker, fridge, and spectrumisgreen. "professionalpubcritic" (??!!) is clearly a horrible person in general, not to say a bit of a moron ! The Stand Up may not be the cleanest or freshest smelling public house in the county, but the staff do a damn fine job of selling it's excellent beer and cider. If you want a nice shiny perfumed bar than naff off to Orange Square !

Perhaps our dear friend Slerpy should stick to the "delights" of Croydon pubs...........

Oh dear. It would appear that Slerpy has slerped too many....!! Really, over 2 months and you come back with that crap - get a life. Oh, and by the way, it's not my pub, i just care a great deal about it. Also, customeris is not a word, and trade is pretty damn fantastic actually. I'd love you to come back down and make yourself known "Slerpy" - I'm sure we could have a wonderful conversation, followed by me throwing you out on your arse.

Attacking the staff would involve you having to move from your stool....

Not entirely sure where Pat or Slerpy were, or how many ales they had sampled before entering The Stand Up, but the place has not been carpeted wall-to-wall since Slerpy's visit. The carpet in the main area of the pub has been in place for several years, and the 'Lloyds Room' still has a wooden floor. Also, in response to Slerpy's comments about the staff, yes, it was a particularly busy day, and yes there was not a lot of room (not the biggest of pubs), however if you continually choose to blissfully ignore people who politely ask for you to please move as they're carrying plates of hot food, then yes, after a while they may turn slightly brusque. This does not mean that the staff are "above their station". Unfortunately certain ale and cider connoisseurs tend to have problems with their hearing ! This is a glorious village pub, which is being managed extremely well with the backing of Dark Star Brewing and a fantastic team behind the bar.
