Paxtons Head, Knightsbridge

£5.05 for a pint of Peroni!!!!!! Enough said!!!!

Whitewebbs House, Enfield

Popped in after a round of golf at the neighbouring course only to find London Pride and Greene King IPA both off (no ales available at all), as indeed was the Stella. Bar staff didn't respond favourably to my subsequent comment of "Perhaps easier if you tell me which , if any, beer you DO have?". Didn't bother to wait for an answer - left and found another pub (with beer!) not too far away! Only visit if you're desperate for a carvery (which is good value) but don't expect to wash it down with your beverage of choice!

The Marquis of Granby, Westminster

Great selection of different ales (and even some now straight from the barrels behind the bar) but as i said in my previous review from last year - they keep running out too quickly! very well kept though and very friendly staff - and now with table service!

The Feathers, St James's

I think pablondon's comments re the staff are a bit unfair - some of the staffs' English leaves a bit to be desired and some of them perhaps haven't yet got to grips with english bar etiquette but on the whole I think they do a fair job (no worse than many other pubs in central London I've frequented). Always an excellent range of ales with 'reasonable' prices (for central london anyway!).

The Five Horseshoes, Little Berkhamsted

Try the cricket clubhouse opposite (Little Berkhamsted Sahibs CC). It's much friendlier and much cheaper!!!!

The The Old Monk Exchange, Westminster

Popped in for a couple of pints at lunchtime today. The Koinoor (diamond Jubilee) was good. . But they charged 1.60 for a splash of lemonade with a spirit! Bloody expensive! And 3 rounds with same drinks each time - 1st was 11.30, 2nd was 12.90 (!!!!!) and 3rd was 11.10. When queried was tod 12.90 was correct! Not impressed.

Usually a good selection of guest ales but they keep running out! They clearly only order small quantities of each coz every time I attempt to have a second or third pint, it's inevitably "off". Frustrating, but I suppose it does mean i get the chance to try the others!

The Newton Arms, Holborn

Staff and management really understand the meaning of customer service! Good Adnams and (and Courage Best?) and the usual array of lagers.

Bradleys, Fitzrovia

Great intimate little place with great atmosphere and interesting jukebox, but ........it has what must be the worst gent's toilet in London (and I've been in quite a few bad ones). The ammonia smell from the one urinal is unbelievably strong when the door is opened! A tip for anyone going to Bradley's therefore is don't stand or sit too close to the gents!! Still, I suppose it all adds to the ambience of the place!!

The Newton Arms, Holborn

I've only started using this pub recently after having given up on The Plough. Beer's good with friendly and efficient service from english barstaff who actually understand your order!

The Union Tavern, Clerkenwell

Had been in here a couple of times just for a quick pint but went in the other day for some lunch. Brilliant! 6.95 for 2 courses, loads of choice, all freshly cooked. Excellent value. Couple of pints as well which were Ok. Will definitely go back again.

The Intrepid Fox, St Giles

Was fascinated to try the place as its just round the corner but realised that as a fast-approaching 50yr old wearing a suit and tie i might not fit in with the rest of the clientelle! But who cares - went in anyway and had a great time. Asked to remove my tie before they would serve me but great fun. Music excellent, beer OK, some weird and wonderful sights (I'm sure they felt the same, no problems getting served although it was packed. Will definitely go back (just waiting for my hair to grow a bit!!!)

The Crown, Bloomsbury

Typical Sam Smith's pub that seems to attract the local "Wetherspoons" type crowd of almost down and outs and other oddballs - all because the beer's cheap!!

The Plough, Bloomsbury

After years of drinking in The Plough I've finally decided to go elsewhere from now on. I've given the place the benefit of the doubt over the ever-worsening service and high prices (3 for Fosters!) but last week was the straw that broke the camel's back! Having waited on a relatively quiet weekday lunchtime for well over 10 mins to get served, one of the two barmaids on duty finally sauntered to my end of the bar and asked me what i wanted to drink. Just as i was about to order a tourist came to the bar and asked where she could order food. Lo and behold, the barmaid began to take her food order!! I objected saying that i was next and she replied that she would serve me next! I replied that she wouldn't as I would be drinking elsewhere from now on!! (Try the Crown on 7 dials - much better service and Carlsberg 50p a pint cheaper.) Enough is Enough!!!!!!!!!

Augustiner Keller, Munich

Unlike Albert, I have Augustiner before Andechs in my favourite German beers. Fantastic!!!!!

Kloster Andechs Brustberl, Andechs

I liven in Munich for a number of years and agree that Andechs was one of the best days out (we even had our works outing there!!). The beer is very, very good, particularly the dunkel doppelbock. Don't try and run down the hill back to the S-Bahn afterwards!!!

The Plough, Bloomsbury

Urf, I too sometimes can't remember what I drank in there, but for very different reasons!!!

The Museum Tavern, Bloomsbury

The layout of this pub suggests it's only interested in cramming in as many tourists as it can for lunch! There's nowhere to stand comfortably at the bar without continually having to move or be knocked about!! Good choice of beers though. Not one of my favourites.

All Bar One, Bloomsbury

Used to be a real favourite with our work crowd (lunchtimes and after work) but recent manager and staff changes have made visits here less pleasurable. Richie Rich (the brummie) asst manager is really good though and a couple of the other staff are friendly and efficient too. Shame the same can't be said about the rest of them!. Beers are good though and not that pricey in comparison to the local pubs and the food is fine. Music tends to irritate once the corporate CD has been played on repeat time and time again. Nice clean environment though and no-smoking zones for those who don't. What's really annoying though is when you've ordered and paid for your drinks at the bar and you're given your change on a little silver plate!

The Plough, Bloomsbury

A great 'proper' boozer with a good mix of regulars and tourists. Recent refurb has improved the toilets (they actually work now and don't leak through the ceiling into the bar!!) and the decor. New plasma screens too. Good choice of beers, well kept and prices are much the same as other pubs in the area. Tends to be pretty smokey though. Biggest drawback is the lack of barstaff! Those who are there are great, but there are not enough of them. Some lunchtimes, there's just two trying to look after and serve food orders as well as serve drinks. Long waits often ensue. Overall however, one of the best pubs in the area.
