The Woodpecker, Spetisbury

This fantastic pub has recently won local CAMRA rural pub of the year and pub of the season. Much deserved awards for Simon and his team. Definately the best pub in the area. Excellent food, unsurpassed real ales and great atmosphere - what more could you want?

The Coventry Arms, Corfe Mullen

A recent change of hands has hopefully seen a change of fortune for this pub. It's been picked up by a local team and, as steamraiser (obviously a chap of good taste :p ) says, the aim seems to be to run a pub that appeals to locals and passers by. It certainly appeals to me. It's really good to see a smiling face behind the bar, the food is excellent and the beer is great. Keep it up guys!

The Woodpecker, Spetisbury

After a long time in the doldrums this pub has blossomed under the current landlord, Simon. It's now a great place to spend time. Excellent choice of real ales, you never know what you'll get. The food is great too. Love it!

The Royal Oak Inn, Luxborough

Love, love, love this pub. Fabulous eclectic feel to the dining rooms and a really good atmosphere in the bar. Exmoor ales on draught and an excellent wine list. The evning meal and breakfast were beautifally cooked and delicious. Comfortable accommodation in a lovely room overlooking the stream. Can't fault the food or the service - or anything!

The Roseland Inn, Philleigh

Nice pub with its own microbrewery. FulmarX was on when we visited, a good pint. We had an excellent, reasonably priced soup and sandwich lunch. The bar staff were friendly and the service was excellent.

The Crown Inn, Lanlivery

We stayed the night here in one of their wonderful "detached" rooms. Beer was good, Sharpes Honey and Skinners Ginger Tosser. Food was mixed, great pate with an unwashed gritty salad, really nice main dishes but with undercooked veg. However, it might have just been an "off" night and I'll definately go back when in the area.

The Blue Peter, Polperro

Great pub, good food (but huge portions!!). Excellent beer and cider on draught; Doom, Yellowhammer, Tribute, Sharpes Special and Thatchers Dry. Very friendly bar and kitchen staff. Well worth a visit.

The Waggon and Horses, Cirencester

David and Minty recently took over the Waggon. They've still got a good selection of well kept real ales. The menu now has decidedly Thai feel and the food is great. Well worth a visit.

The Wheatsheaf, East Hendred

I really cannot fault this pub. We stopped for lunch; two very well kept beers on draught, Tiger and Greene King IPA. The staff were friendly and efficient, the pub and garden were lovely and the food was excellent and extemely reasonably priced for the quality. We'll definitely be back.

The Dolphin, Blandford Forum

Still the best pub in Blandford. Obviously there's a few Piddle beers on but there's a chalk board for you to suggest guest ales. The guys who have taken over seem very welcoming and it's great to see a few of the old staff there. The new menu looks good too.

The Twelve Bells, Cirencester

A sad time for Cirencester. Bob, the landlord, has gone; a victim of the recession. The pub is currently empty, hopefully it will be picked up by someone who'll keep it the way it was. Good news for the food fans though, Justin has gone to the Golden Cross. Thanks for the good times Bob.

The Worm's Head Hotel, Swansea

This pub must have one of the best beer garden views in the country. The staff were friendly and the Welsh cider (Taffy) was excellent and much needed following a stomp round the head. The Lamb Cawl was good. The entertainment of the cows on the beach was an extra special touch!

The White Rose, Mumbles

A bit of a disappointment here after reading other reviews. The beer was ok though it took a while to order as the person behind the bar was busy chatting with locals. We thought we'd grab some lunch - 3 snack plates for 6.50. We were told there would be a 40 minute wait which was fine. The food arrived in 20 minutes - great. However, the food wasn't good. The fish goujons were batter and bone and the potato wedges were huge and undercooked. No one checked we were ok, though to be fair the staff were busy and there was no one behind the bar. We left a lot of food and I would have said something but didn't get the chance

The No Sign Wine Bar, Swansea

A really good pub. Friendly staff, interesting beers and, as mentioned below, a wide range of whisky, rum and gin. It was one of Dylan Thomas' watering holes - if it was good enough for Dylan it's good enough for me!
