The Mortal Man Inn, Troutbeck

great for a pint in the garden or the bar, but for a meal, totally hit and miss. You might get what you ordered, if not, check your neighbours table. Same goes for the bill. Fine if it works in your favour. otherwise, a shambles. Avoid the garden room, looks nice but nobody comes to serve you. Understaffed. The manager must know how many bookings they have taken for the evening. Shame for such a nice location.

The Bull and Last, Gospel Oak

full of porky middle aged suburbanites, pink socks and brown suede loafers. nice pub, shame about the clientele. Anyone local, as they say? No, thought not.

The Dartmouth Arms, Dartmouth Park

Don't be sucked in by the westerham ales. Generally in such poor condition - as are any other ales, like thwaites, which sometimes appear - that it is really not worth bothering with. You will either return your drink immediately or wish you had halfway down the glass. Keep walking to the junction, turn right and head for the Southampton. A shame, makes you yearn for the Taylor Walker years, with leaking roof and golldfish tank.....

The Star, Highgate

Most of the comments below relate to the great period when the people who now run the Southampton arms on highgate road were the landlords at this pub. Since they left the food is ordinary where it was exciting and the beer awful where it was amazing. The staff are generally clueless and have no idea what they are trying to shove into a pint glass unless it is fizzy lager. What a loss. And the jukebox has gone.
