Bohemian, Moseley

been here a few saturdays.

overzealous bouncers are the order of things here...due to it being a regular spot for punch-ups between coked-up Kings Heath and Acocks Green cliques. Not rough at all now, in fact it has a nice vibe.

Has a DJ but he places the same songs every week. He seems to have 'Valerie' on permanent loop.

Very clean. Nice smoking part. Toilets well looked after. Less Cokeheads these days too.

Service is quick and efficient and friendly...some other pubs in Moseley should take lessons in customer service. Choice of beers/spirits is low - needs improving. What beers they do have are good. Only eaten here once, food is mundane, nothing spectacular. Not a place to watch sport as TVs are way too small.

Very much a place for the older adult out on the pull.

Not a bad night, all told.

The Prince of Wales, Moseley

the biggest flaw of this pub is getting served from either the garden or the back two rooms...it involves queueing in a corridor.

the garden is what makes this pub. its immense and chock-full of characters - be it the beardy-weirdy real-ale types to the slutty goth chicks to the Balsall Heath geezers laughing loudly. It has definitely benefitted from the fighting cocks disappearing up its own a*se.

Good pub. Nice atmosphere. Good beer.

its like drinking in a sardine can. bouncers are needlessly confrontational. Downstairs music is very much navel-gazing self-indulgence tat trying to sell itself as 'cool'. Poorly trained staff means that at even medium-full, it will take you an age to get served. Seem to employed more for their look than for their competency to pull a pint, one staff member didn't know what a 'whiskey mac' was. Beer is good though.

Upstairs is very much a hit-and-miss affair but to be fair that is because they want to cater to as broad a musical spectrum as possible. Some of the indie nights are quality.

Ok bar...but they need to get the basics right.

One Trick Pony Club, Moseley

Beer is good - nice guinness especially. Food is weak. Barstaff are competent. Large outdoor space. It has a large amount of Kings Heath Oirish that frequent this place.

The biggest negatives are that they never put on enough staff at peak periods and that for some reason...it is a haven for flies. They're everywhere when you're at the bar. Honestly.

Goose At The Fighting Cocks, Moseley

The most expensive pint in moseley..by a distance. Staff have attempted to overcharge me on two separate occasions. Beer is flat. Chairs are dirty. Floors are sticky. Toilets are manky. Another faux-bohemian bar which gets the basics wrong.

Worst pub in Moseley.

I got told not to swear by the landlady, apparently they have a morality police in here.

excellent beer, cheap and cheerful food, usual mix of wetherspoon clientele (students, p*ssheads, old geezers and people getting tanked before moving on.)

The Patrick Kavanagh, Moseley

Positives: good vibe, good beer, food is pretty good, good for sport, live music on some weekdays.

Negatives: tends to get very over-crowded at the weekends and cramped at the best of times.

A good pub and a good place to start on a Moseley pub crawl

The Junction, Harborne

pub is going for the pseudo-bohemian look. lots of superfluous candles and mismatching furniture - often in poor states of repair. Food served is very much a hit and miss affair...either very good or downright awful.
Lots of choices for beer, although not really a real ale pub.
It gets the basics wrong, pretty much ALL the lagers that you order are flat. And the barstaff are not very good at following basic commands such as an order. Would suggest that the root cause is that its poorly managed.
