The Bell Inn, Bristol

The name change needs the update, but yes, a decent pub with some great quality range of beers.

The Victoria, Clifton

Tiny but lovely pub, which i made the mistake of visiting at just after 5pm on a friday afternoon. I found a. sort of half seat to share. I would go back for an early afternoon pint or three though.

The Crown and Kettle, Ancoats

Lovely pub with friendly staff. Impressive ceiling, which i imagine i would have spent more time looking at if I had stayed for just a couple more pints.

The Lass O'Gowrie, Manchester

Had a good pint of betty and sat in the snug, flicking through the collection of books and pull down screen, some of the local art for sale, a run through the forthcoming events... this pub is long with the bar at one side, which made it a bit of a hassle on a busy day, but the snug area is lovely.

The City Arms, Manchester

Probably the finest jukebox in manchester. When I visited, there were lots of men of fine standing struggling to stand. A nice, local style boozer in the middle of the city.

The Blue Bar and Grill, Liverpool

Overpriced drinks, but a decently laid out and run venue.

The Baltic Fleet, Liverpool

Great pub just over the road from some nice hotels and a conference centre, not far from the dock with it's unfortunately chain pub stylings. Those places all charge high to extortionate prices (nearly a fiver for a bottle of Bombardier at Jurys inn), whilst this place was very reasonable for prices, had a fine selection of beers, and had staff which understood how to pull a pint and be friendly.

The Roscoe Head, Liverpool

I have asked for my earlier comment to be removed, but it hasn't happened several weeks later. I indeed got this place confused with the nearby and similarly named Rosco.

The Roscoe Head, Liverpool

Went in here midweek and drank some continental lager or other, might have been San Miguel. Fine. They advertised Doom Bar outside and on several posters inside - all out, no real ales on at all. No blonde either through pump still on bar. Lady serving was quite apologetic and friendly, customers all seemed a laugh, but when the first few attemts to get a drink are met with apologies, it isn't brilliant. So, fine for what it is, but it doesn't seem to know quite what it is, given it is a pub supposedly liked by real ale crowd but out of real ale, a community pub with TVs on and music loud. I wouldn't go back when next in Liverpool, but did experience very friendly service, and it seemed a neat, clean and friendly pub.

The King Charles Tavern, Newbury

Looks like napkingate knocked the score down. I'm not changing mine but will say the staff have never been rude when I have been in, the landlord always seems friendly, the pints and food have always been of good quality (and not overpriced, nor as limited as this being Greene King would suggest), and Newbury - awkwardly, not over blessed with good pubs - benefits from this being near the station.

The Smithfield, Derby

Popped in this weekend - reopen and a fine pint served. New landlady charming, bar staff friendly, place neatly done up. Back on the crawl for future visits.

The Swan Inn, Dawlish

Small pub that is a five minute stroll away from town so seems to rely almost entirely on locals. Easily the best pub out of the seven we visited here in July though. Fantastic beer garden garden at the back is much bigger than you would expect and well kept by managers. We had a friendly chat over some perfect beer with the wonderful landlady, who could not have been more welcoming. Two locals drinking in the pub were also a good laugh. The town needs more pubs (and people) like this.

The Harbour Moon, West Looe

Decent food at fair prices and good pints on each of our three visits here over the last couple of years - but atmosphere heavily reliant on which staff are on. Can be friendly and polite and funny, can be stroppy and ready to snarl if you dare ask to be served whilst they are bitching with other staff. I would suggest it is worth the gamble, as the pub itself is quite large, very comfortable and extremely well kept.

The Peruvian Arms, Penzance

A fine locals pub about a five minute stroll from the station. It might not look like much from the outside, but the landlord was as friendly as the locals and served a perfect pint.

The Longboat Hotel, Penzance

Good size pub with some sort of atmosphere vacuum in operation. I've never had an iced real ale before (the ice crystals were still floating as a questionable replacement for that brief foamy head), and I will hopefully not repeat the experience. One member of staff (in massive pub - we should have heeded the warning sign and gone elsewhere) was sullen and sneery, which is ill-advised behaviour for a crap barman in a crap pub in a crap area of a nice town full of pubs. Not even worth it for a quick check on Sky Sports News.

Rashleigh Arms, Charlestown

Good food, friendly staff, perfect pints - but beware the migrane inducing carpet in the dining area (hideous, just hideous)
