The conceit is that there is quality service and product.

The Packhorse and Talbot, Chiswick

Dismal. I don't think anyone cleans the beer lines, the lavatory is constantly awash, they had run out of tonic and the staff all look bored.

The food is indifferent at best and the price of beer is ridiculous, considering you get to drink it to the constant sound of whining, foul-mouthed old men - and even then their symphony for sputum is better than the music on offer.

I like this place. They have a balance between yuppie f**kwits and foodies and people who just want a drink or two. They try hard to fit us all in.

The Salutation, Hammersmith

I've been visiting this pub on and off for four or five years and it is a decent pub with a good mix of people and a nice garden, although the last couple of times it really felt like no one behind the bar was really that bothered - yacking, texting, reading out bits from magazines to each other etc and then handing over your beers with their fingers all over the rims of the glasses.
