The Vintry, St Albans

Another victim of poor service, lame beer and poor quality, the credit crunch is good for some things, chortle, chortle,chortle....hope the new bistro goes well

Mokoko, St Albans

I agree with Locale Drinker....the service in this place is rather second rate and there is no ale to be sought or bought; there are a variety of much more suitable venues to supp at nearby; most prominently The Farriers. Mokoko is for young poseurs who enjoy wasting hard earned on cocktails and designer lager that probably tastes as bad as their disgusting aftershave.

Savanna @ The Black Lion Inn , St Albans

This place concerns me, what is it? A poncey wine bar or an even poncier restaurant, the quasi homo erotic black and white photos hung on the wall give a nasty flavour to the overpriced beer. This place was much better when it had straw on the floor and cattle lowing in the corner, come on world wake up and go somewhere better......

The Fighting Cocks, St Albans

Came here en famille last Sunday, weather was great, beer garden livley enough. Beer is pricey in this place and had a good pint of Harveys. The food was a disgrace and not worth the money 12 for a roast that consisted of half a carrott, half a potato one slice of beef. I would really think twice about eating in this place although the menu has changed and got smaller so has the portions, not impressed and will not be returning, the visit means this place gets Zip from me, terrible and certainly worth avoidaing on the weekend, unlees you like queing for epensive food and beer, in the current economic climate this place does not represent good value and I hope the management are aware of this.

The Goat, St Albans

Devoid of atmosphere with the same beers on tap at all times, better off moving off down the road to the two other pubs for better value and more choice. TTFN.

All I can say is that Beerwech 27 must of enjoyed her free or paid for meal in this establishment as would recommend any of snorbans fine eating establishments rather than this place for a plat d'mange..it's a boozer not claridges.

The Lower Red Lion, St Albans

I forgot to add that I know it can be a cultural shock, especially moving from the North to the South. I myself found it difficult drinking in the North of the Country, there were cultural differences, the language was off putting at first but eventually after the help of two friendly locals, and with time, I found that I could communicate and thoroughly enjoy a new cultural experience...I hope you can too, it will just take time. Good Luck...

matt_k, welcome back to snorbans,of course you are entitled to your own opinion....It is great that you are able to share with us your honest opinion of Southern drinking establishments. We may not share your opinions and like short heads on our pints but it would be nice if you were felt to made welcome...feel free to comment. By the way the LRL had a great beer fest, v enjoyable, some pints under 3 aswell!

The Goat, St Albans

Used to be good - but now frequented by the Caspers and Tarquins of the area not to mention the Susan's and Jessica's, I am an inervted snob of sorts and love to see people pay over the odds for a pint and a chippy plate of grub, still bet the management have not had that many complaints as the customers would'nt want to show themselves up....the selection of ales never change either

The Verulam Arms, St Albans

The snooty locals are posher than Joan Collins knickers, beer is costly and has weird shape bar with many people choosing to eat gastro than drink beer, snootily glum........

What's the point of this place, can't be much of a future apart from the football shirted blue and reds that feed on Sky Sports and Stella....Nul Points.

came down here after reading rave reviews about being fantastic and found a rather grubby youth club selling beer, not good.
