Friendly pub serving decent quality pub food. Kids and dog friendly. Only drawback is the limited selections of ales.

The Beef and Barrel, Ponders End

Sad to see it's gone - completely gone - was a regular for a couple of years 95 - 98 ish. Think it was originally called The Swan

The Original Plough, Chelmsford

Decent enough boozer with a good selection of real ales. Compares favourable with The Ship - a similar sized pub just around the corner.
