The Marquis of Granby, Weymouth

Well, the good points are ...... a very well laid out restaurant and immaculate settings - right by the entrance, which creates a very good impression. Secondly you are welcomed by a smiling waiter as soon as you enter - again very impressive as most places ignore their customers.

The downside is you cannot have a 'pub meal' as it's hardly a pub any more, or snack, as we wanted last night. You can have what I consider to be an expensive restaurant meal. Having said that I imagine it's a place you would choose for a special occasion or treating friends, but not for casual eating.

Horton Inn, Horton

This has to be a place you visit just the once - never to return!

Being awkward we've been there on two occasions during the summer, but the result was exactly the same. As other posters have said the atmosphere is nil, which is a shame as it is a lovely building situated in the country, but it always appears as the staff are in mourning. I have yet to see one of them meet a customer's eyes, let alone smile.

A very strange setup. On both occasions I couldn't wait to get outside.

The Owls Nest, West Parley

An excellent place to bring friends for a drink or a meal as the staff acknowledge you as soon as you go in - which is almost unheard of nowadays!

Lovely atmosphere, good wine, food and service. What more could you ask for?

The Angel Inn, Longham

After reading the negative reviews we were rather reluctant to return to the place where we have had such outstanding meals prior to the huge refurbishment.

Well, we needn't have worried - it was fabulous! Despite what others have said the 'olde worlde' charm has not been removed with the builders hammer. The lovely fires are still burning, the old pictures on the red brick walls are as they were - and the comfortable chairs are in place.

Tonight (Tuesday) was packed as it was a firms night out but the service was swift and extremely friendly. The staff have time to chat, even when it's hectic. Lovely Christmas decorations, just the right amount, with crackers on each table - a nice touch.

We had the Scampi Supper, followed by Real Toffee Pudding, accompanied by two large glasses of white wine. This meal can be had just about anywhere and varies from good to downright disgusting, but The Angel takes it to a new level of taste and presentation. Superb!
