The Rifle Range, Chadderton

I went before and after the Oldham- Crawley game and found it to be a lively friendly pub with well kept beer. I returned in the evening and chatted with the lovely landlord Des and got a real appreciation of the high level of customer care he puts in. Lees Brewers Dark was on draft and was excellent

Somerset Arms, Semington

An excellent pub, A very attractive character building with several separate areas. Big supporters of Locale - local beers- all the staff are both very knowledgeable and friendly, Ales are very well kept and the food is both individual and excellent. Apparently Camra pub of the South West against strong opposition shows how good this place is

The Grand Junction Arms, Bulbourne

I live close to the pub and although I appreciated the efforts made by the previous landlord the pub had a neglected feel to it. The new landlord Mick has invested both money and alot of care in the place and it shows in every way. I have been for several convivial quiz nights and enjoyed the quality of the rather unadventuruous ales Spitfire, Pride and GK IPA. all of which are very well kept.

Last night we ate there and were so impressed with the quality of the food, the menu was varied and interesting but the food and service was superb, beautifully and creatively served and packed with flavour. It was not the cheapest but the quality was absolutely top draw.

I look forward to a wider selection of Ales which is my main passion but am sure no one would be disappointed with the friendliness, atmosphere or quality of both food and Ale and oh before i forget for lager lovers there are some quality foreign bottled beers to delight

The Rising Sun, Berkhamsted

I visited for the 1st time at the recent Beer Festival and discovered an excellent pub. Well kept and varied choice Real Ale and Cider, support of Locale, a regular Tring house beer, friendly helpful staff, glasses filled to the brim, nice sheltered garden and a great location on the towpath walk. A gem!

The Blacksmiths Arms, St Albans

I would agree with all the recent comments - the landlord deserves top marks for all the efforts with real ale and has put on some very good ales. A festival a month is incredible and deserves full support. My only reservation is the internal side of the pub where the abundance of screens make it noisier than I would like, and the misfortune one night of having to witness a drunken slag performing a virtual lap dance with a lager drinker made an uncomfortable half hour- but otherwise I have nothing but praise and the pub is the 1st on my list for a n evening in St A

The Bull, London Colney

i have visited several times over the past year and have always been impressed with the quaility of the Ales and the friendliness of the staff and the regular local visitors. The bar has usually been fairly busy when I have visited. They also put on a small beer festival last year and this week-end had a couple of extra of Ales.

I plan to visit more regularly now that I can cycle from Shenley where the quality of pubs and ales has declined
