The Bear Hotel, Wantage

Rumoured to be in for an expensive overhaul. About time!

The beer is OK most of the time but sometimes you can get an unlucky pint. Seems to attract coffin dodgers and lushes during the day but is reasonably pleasant of a weekend evening.

It is now a Costa Coffee.

You can go in, spend 15 quid on a round of mediocre coffees and come out wondering what the point of living is!

Seriously, the cheapest coffee is more expensive than a pint down The Swan!

Misery. Don't bother.

The Swan, Wantage

Some really well kept & interesting ales. Liking the happy hour prices and Sunday deal for ales.

Gets packed at the weekend but seems to be very well controlled - definitely the most popular late night venue in the town.

Shame about the yard - it could be really lovely but seems to be just for smokers. Hide the bins, get some more furniture and cut down the massive tree that all the pigeons sit in and shit in your pint!

Overall though it's a nice place and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Repeat business - definitely.

The Blue Boar, Wantage

What a joke.

It's shut half the time and seems to be suffering from a serious identity crisis. The toilets have got to be the worst I've ever been in. They absolutely stink and looks like they've been "cleaned" by slinging a bucket of piss round the room with a filthy old mop.

Seriously, just making an effort with the brush and mop bucket would make the world of difference.

No real ale, expensive lager and no wine list to speak of. Freshly tarmac'd yard.

The Kings Arms, Wantage

Cheap lager & only one real ale.

Lairy locals hanging around the bar who don't make way for new punters.

Unhelpful barmaid.

Lovely large garden is its only redeeming feature.

The Shoulder of Mutton, Wantage

Lovely little pub.

Three real ales all in excellent condition. New landlord & landlady are a very nice couple. I visit regularly and can say it's generally a very pleasant atmosphere with and array of quirky locals. Perhaps the only drawback is the introduction of two giant televisions which some people cant help but gawp at, even when it's playing the radio!

Has re-opened. Reasonable effort so far. Bogs still need attention. Good happy hour deals (4 - 7).

Typical chav trap. The managers aren't shy when it comes to throwing their customers out - pop in some time for a punch up!

Sounds like others below have had their noses put out of joint. I had a good game of pool upstairs (decent table) with a couple of mates. Good selection of quality lagers (nice to see Bud on tap). Not everyone's cup of tea but it is very lively at the weekends!
